Cafe 107 - Brisbane

Look it's cheap, not entirely nasty & directly over the road from home. When ppl crash at ours, it's easier to stumble here for brekkie than mess up our own kitchen. You get what you pay for and that's reliably basic fare and lots of it. The girls are polite, the Di Bella is decent and there's freebies. I've seriously popped in for the takeaway special - either a $3 bircher muesli or bacon & egg roll - & walked away with the food, a coffee plus complimentary bikkies & water & some flowers & I've spent like $10. It's insane. Don't quote me but I believe this was 'patient zero' of the whole Cafe 63 phenomenon...then was re-named 107 for the location at 107 Latrobe Terrace. A fine theory if I do say so myself & I'm standing by it. I also maintain it's an improvement on its Spoon predecessor. Theories on tap today. Watch out moon landing...

It's slim pickings of a Monday afternoon in Brisbane. This cafe, which formerly housed Spoon deli, is in a great location but that's all that is great. We only stopped in for a light afternoon tea but I was appalled at the changes here. AstroTurf, and not used in an ironic hipster way, laminated food menus, plastic tablecloths, large posters of the food... seems to now be an Asian run establishment and spending money on decor isn't a high priority. but there were some cool things, like the bottled water instead of tap water, although I see a lot of complaints about it, but frankly the city water isn't great so I was glad. and the quality Beerenburg jams and sauces. The menu is large and certainly pleasing to the masses, but this place just seems wrong for Paddington. The scones were really not good, heavy and doughy and then microwaved, and coffee was very mild. This was another unexpected visit for me - I saw the place filled with people munching on their breakfast at 10am in the morning. Why not? I'll give this place a try :) Let me first begin with their menu - I don't think I have ever seen such a large menu with loads of dishes, not to mention their odd names for the meals. I couldn't keep up with the amount of food shown on there so I just went with the usual Eggs Benedict w/ Grilled Ham and a Mocha. My coffee was served in a mug - nice and hot with well-balanced flavours of chocolate and caffeine. The Eggs Benedict came shortly - the portion was smaller than I anticipated. Poached eggs were runny (just the way I'd prefer them to be), however, I still thought the quantity and quality of the dish did not measure up to the price I paid for today. Unfortunately, it was a somewhat disappointing first experience. Despite all, on the good side the staff were friendly and attentive :) I wouldn't mind coming back for a coffee fix next time.

Cafe 107 has a bit of everything on the menu with all day breakfast and lunch list. They serve a great coffee as we had a flat white and cappuccino, before we had a Toronto which is a four stack pancake, with maple syrup, berry and yoghurt, with a side of bacon. Thought it was well presented and it was served quickly and a good overall dish. Something for everyone this place, and set in a outdoor comfortable setting in the Central Paddington plaza.
