Above average Iced Latte (3.5), but $6 for a Fruit Toast is pretty steep, especially when it tastes like normal fruit toast (3). You can also pick up a bag of Avid Espresso coffee beans for takeaway.
I was in West End visiting my soon to be new home in close by Highgate Hill. It was a steamy hot day in Brisbane. As I walking past, I noted this place had air conditioning, so I decided to escape the heat and pop in. At the back of book shop, there is a delightful little cafe. At the friendly cook's suggestion, I ordered the cheese and veg pizza. When it arrived I was blown away. It looked amazing. And quite frankly, the taste sensation matched the way it looked. The base was smeared generously with pesto and blue and feta cheese. The topping was bits of crumbled blue and feta cheese. On top of all this was fresh mint and rocket salad.
Amazing food and service. The price and value of the food is impeccable, would absolutely rave to anyone looking at having a nice (cost friendly) breakfast/lunch. Will definitely be coming back.
If you're a book fiend and a coffee crack addict then Avid Reader is a must for you. Great atmosphere and brilliant coffee. Niceish outside dining area. Food is basic, but the coffee and the bookish atmosphere is the real draw card. The owner, Fiona, also appears passionate, drawing in the crowds through book club meets and readings. It has a great sense of inner city community.
Buy a book, find a corner and spend your lazy Sunday sipping coffee and indulging in one of the many tasty treats Avid Reader offers. My favourite independent bookshop in Australia, with friendly, knowledgeable staff, regular literary events and the best range of books I've seen in a bookstore of it's size. Also check out Where the Wild Things Are (their kid's bookstore next door). Don't ever change you guys - you're awesome.
