Viet Street Eat - Brighton

This fabulous small town with heritage and groove has quickly adopted Viet street eat as one of its latest cultural additions. The owners son and other students from nearby high school work here to serve you delicious Vietnamese food. I love living here and having a great Pho' down the road makes it even better. From humble beginnings aim sure even better things will come.

Came here with friends who have raved about the place. Unfortunately they didn't warn us about the portions and we ordered far too much. Everything was so good it wasn't a hardship to clear the plates. The clue is in the name, simple and unpretentious décor and food. The kids enjoyed making their own rice paper rolls and the street rice was sublime. My husband had the chicken pho (soup) you add the ingredients to the broth yourself so it is as hot or spicy as you want. Will be back some time soon.

We tried this place for the first time on Mothers Day for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. We have been to Vietnam many times so we know what to expect and this place didn't disappoint us - it was not half-Vietnamese half Chinese like many so-called Vietnamese restaurants. We had spring rolls, rice paper rolls, duck pancakes (excellent), pork soup and rice noodle salad. Ended with Vietnamese coffee and deep fried ice cream. Servings were large - even the medium pork soup - and tasted just like in Vietnam. Staff were very friendly and the service was good. Don't expect luxury dining (why pay for ambience?), this place has a 'funky' design and is basically an eatery - and a good one at that. We will go back, and will recommend it to our friends.

Second visit to this new restaurant in Sandgate, and I was a little disappointed. I ordered the chicken soup. The flavour was very bland. I expected delicious pieces of soft poached chicken meat, instead there was flavourless grey meat that looked and tasted more like pork. The waiters were fast to serve, but failed to take away our empty bowls when we finished. The restaurant was busy with patrons but lacked atmosphere. There is no music or ambiance at all. So much more could be done to make the place more interesting, especially with those high ceilings. And definitely add music!!

We didn't know what to expect and we're surprised by our experience. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The staff were young and trying hard to please but we felt that the needed some extra training - being an employer ourselves for quite a few staff we recognised that they tried hard but lacked experience. But saying that, our meals were absolutely delicious. The blend of tastes left us all wanting to return. Our food was fresh and very tasty. The price of the generous portions was very good value.
