Matthew Thomas Cafe - Brighton

What a disgusting experience. The staff are quite young, don 't know what their doing, and then awfully rude with a bad attitude when trying to politely give feedback. I ordered two brekky burgers. One for me and one for my twin. The sesame buns came overly toasted and burnt. I was not expecting burnt crispy bread buns. I told them this was not acceptable so they said they would just take the middle out and put it on some fresh buns. It took ages for the kitchen to do that. Then I asked for mine to also be done and the waiter was visibly annoyed at my request. As I waited, I checked my sister 's burger only to find that the buns were cold and around 5 days old. I then brought this to the attention of the waiter who said yeah we keep our bread in the fridge . As if I was the one with the problem. And they were charging $18 for a pathetic excuse for a brekky burger. The bacon and egg in it was burnt too. Meanwhile, my friend ordered an iced coffee. Straight away she got a bitter intense hit of coffee. Then couldn 't use a straw to drink it because they just put an ice cream scoop in it and wasn 't blended at all.. So what she was sucking up through the straw at first was all the coffee at the bottom of the glass. Then when she went to pay for it she too pointed out how bad it was and their excuse was that 's just how we make it here. In protest I stated that by just dumping a scoop of ice-scream and adding milk and not blending it at all, doesn 't make it an iced coffee, at which he rudely replied with well every cafe makes it differently . What a load of BS! I can forgive mistakes, especially when the other party takes ownership of their wrong doing and genuinely apologises, but to try and put the onus back on the customer for their own substandard product and service is just foolish! It was obvious to me that they are just sloppy and too lazy to actually blend it, and toasting the bread rolls to a burnt crisp was their way to hide the 5 day old bread.

Went in for brunch and had the kids breakfast with smoked salmon. It was fast to order and fast to get the food. The food was really good. I recommend telling all the people you know to come to this cafe.

Excellent location with a fantastic views to catch up with friends and enjoy excellent coffee and meals. Friendly and joyful staff.

Popped in for lunch, ordered from the all day breakfast menu. the food was superbly presented, the combination of flavours and colours was excellent and only exceeded by taste. the service was very prompt and friendly. a well recommended experience.
