Sofia Pizza Restaurant - Boroondara

On our way through from airport to Dandenong, on a late Friday night. We found this on trip advisor and thought "this will do". Husbands seafood pasta was massive and could have fed all three of us! He left most of it because frozen scallops are not his thing. My small size ravioli bolognese was tasty enough but had big random meatball like chunks. Daughters minestrone soup was huge and good value for $6.00. Herb bread was oily pizza base. Perhaps the pizzas are their star. Service was abrasive and once we asked for longer to place our order, we had to wait another 10 mins to catch their attention! Meh.

Most reviews say awful food but plenty of it. Lunch with family. They like it. I had a pizza capricciosa on the theory that you can't ruin pizza. While not actively poisonous, it was badly burnt on the base. Never again.

I don't know what it is about Italian Restaurants but I keep going back to Sofia's for the great food, excellent quality and friendly staff. It could be the atmosphere? some restaurants are "stuffy" and you can hear a pin drop. Not at Sofia's - the atmosphere is turned "up" and it seems everyone is enjoying themselves. Whether an intimate dinner for two... or a family meal - Sofia's is the place I go in Melbourne. A word of caution to the unsuspecting though... order the entree size! The food tastes great!

One of the best places to eat Italian on a budget because the quantity is just crazy because one plate can be eaten by 3 people. All of them taste wonderful from the pizza to the pasta with very friendly waiters that have been working with Sofia's for a long time.
