We understand that this restaurant has been here over 25 years. We can see why. The decor, service and food is authentic, genuine and really enjoyable. It’s so obvious that the food here is cooked with love and pride. We had never had Afghan food...before. It’s sort of like a mixture of middle eastern, Asian and Indian even. This is probably misleading though. It is it’s own cuisine of course with a rich history and it’s very tasty and rustic on what we had here. We loved every single dish we tried. We had the Badenjan Bourani, Ashak, Mantoo, Qorma Badenjan, Qorma e Gulnee, Beef Kabuli Palau and Chicken Khandahsti. I think the memory of the food that will stay with me the longest is the subtlety and depth of the spicing in a number of the dishes. Corkage was very reasonable at $5 a bottle. Always good to be able to take a special bottle of your own. Our thanks to the owner manager here who is a lovely man. There was some serious discussion at our table (an upcoming wedding! and he allowed us to stay to finish the chat. An excellent restaurant that we strongly recommend for a great nice out. It’s a 4.5 for me.
I don't know why it ever took me so long to try it here. It's really good. I cheated and looked at the menu online ahead of time, and it sounded so delish, and didn't disappoint. It's warm and cozy inside, with nice decor and...lots of tealights to give it a nice atmosphere (along with the Afghani music). The waiter was quick to greet us and give us the menus, and after ordering, the food came out in good time and was all cooked the way we asked for, and the right modifications were made too. The potatoes were delicious, and thankfully someone else at the table had bread I could steal to help mop up some sauce. The chicken kebabs were beautiful and tender and full of lovely flavour. They came with bread and salad. I don't think there's anything I could fault as it was just so morish. I couldn't finish everything, therefore I didn't stuff myself with dessert, even though I wanted to, but from what we all ate, we all agreed we'd come back again for sure. Parking can be a tiny bit of a pain in the you-know-where, but otherwise, it's a restaurant that I'd definitely recommend to anyone who loves Indian and/or Nepalese food, but wants a slight change in flavour. It's very good, and can't wait to try it again.
All food were delicious. Every thing was perfect and friendly. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.
Have been to Afgan Village on a number of occasions and is always a pleasure to dine here. Wide variety of menu items, the food is always plentiful with very aromatic flavours. Banquets are offered if you're not sure what to get. The staff are...very friendly and helpful. Ambience is lovely very cozy, with low lighting with traditional Afghani décor. BYO option is always a winner. A must visit restaurant if you're down Camberwell. You will leave happy!
