The Gilpin Casino - Black Hawk

I had the pleasure of dining in for lunch, and it was an outstanding experience all around. The food was exceptional, earning a solid 5 out of 5. The service was equally impressive, also a 5 out of 5, with attentive and friendly staff. The atmosphere was inviting and pleasant, deserving a perfect score of 5 as well. Overall, this restaurant offers a fantastic lunch experience that I highly recommend!

The menu was extensive, and the special was a $12.99 prime rib with two sides. I decided to try it, even though I believe prime rib should never be priced under $20-30; otherwise, I think something must be seriously wrong with it. My friends reminded me that it's a casino, and they lower prices to attract customers. Fair point. Speaking of my friends, they ordered the surf and turf and a hamburger. To be honest, the prime rib was slightly better than expected for that low price. My friends said the burger was average, while the surf and turf was below par. Our server was incredibly nice and apologetic for forgetting a few things, which we had to remind him about. We took a slice of cheesecake to go. As we were leaving, I asked my friends about Lucille Malone, and the cashier filled us in on the story. Lucille tragically jumped off the balcony after her lover was run over by a wagon. The cashier even took us to the balcony where it happened! Lucille, darling, no man is worth jumping off a balcony for... but I can understand the temptation, given that carpet! Honestly, I'm giving this place two stars mainly for the history. And as for the cheesecake we took home? Not great at all. I wouldn’t recommend checking out Blackhawk.

The food was delicious and fairly priced. Our hostess seated us promptly and brought our drinks. Our waiter, Brian, was fantastic. I had seen a dish on the menu online, which is what drew my girlfriend and me to the restaurant. However, I discovered that it was no longer available. Brian kindly checked with the chef, and they went out of their way to prepare it for us. Thank you all!

Fantastic food!! Can't beat the price either!! Home-y atmosphere wjth friendly staff, definitely use some old school recipes, it was absolutely delicious!! Next time we stay up there this place is definitely on our list to grub out again. Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast
