Good food, not long to wait for the food and a good selection of things including a very generous chicken tandoori, which I had. Papadoms on the house, which was nice. One of our group had butter chicken which he said was really special.
Great atmosphere, great service, average food. I was craving Indian food while traveling in Germany, but unfortunately this place failed to satisfy my cravings... the curry just wasn't as spicy and flavorful as the Indian cuisine I know can be. If you can handle spicy, make sure you emphasize it when you order! Reasonable prices. Other people seem to like it, so I might give it another chance.
I went for dinner to Mela with my mother and my little baby in the stroller and they were very friendly to help us the best place to have the stroller next to the table. Waiters are very nice and smiling. Food is good, dishes very big, place very clean and price really reasonable. I would only say that we wait a bit too long for the food, but the experience was anyway totally positive.
This resto has few reviews, so isn't far up on TA's list. However, all but one of the reviews are glowing, as is mine. The cuisine here was neither "average" nor "standard" - "Stand Out" would be a more apt description. The menu is diverse. Although many of the dishes listed are familiar, the spicing of those I had was subtly different and distinct, and the freshness of the ingredients and their individual preparation was apparent. No hint of mass production here. Vegetables were crisp and tender, and the vegetarian offerings were plentiful. Service was excellent (Deutsch/Englisch egal), prompt and very welcoming. The single negative review listed is not a review of the restaurant or it's food quality, and should be discounted. It is an ideological rant, brought on by the reviewer's reaction to a perhaps uninformed waitress who was, herself, probably unaware of the diversity of regional cuisines in India. The reviewer says he didn't even go in! Mela is definitely worth a visit. And if you're a resident or longer-term visitor, it's worth several!
We ate there this easter sunday and had a great time, the service was speedy and welcoming and the food was delicious and very affordable. We will be coming back the next time in Berlin
