The other staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. Food was a little better than average, I had Turkish bread with chicken and pesto. When it arrived at the table it really was just a hamburger with a side of chips. It was very nice though. My partner had pork belly which came with mashed potato and gravy and a small piece of broccoli, he said it was cooked very well and enjoyable. We finished with coffee which was nearly cold when served. Decor needs to be updated to bring it in line with similar clubs.
Regularly dine at the B C. Food is good quality and reasonably priced. A little limited on menu but sufficient variety to satisfy most. Small annual membership available. Members discounts accordingly.
We visited for the first time (even though we live blocks away). We had 2 fussy kids, fussy husband and extremely fussy MIL. Kids had kids meal and gave it the thumbs up. I had the burger and it was delicious, MIL had the steak and was very pleased with her choice. The food was delivered quickly, even though it was quite busy and full. Somewhere to return to with fussy (don't want to be challenged) eaters.
The Bentleigh Club has good parking and the Poker machines do not intrude on diners. Staff were pleasant, when you could find one. The decor is very 'aged-care' style. Our meals were disappointing. My Calamari was awful - mass-factory-produced from China. Nothing like the fresh Calamari served in 95% of Melbourne's eateries just 15km from town. Serving this packet-frozen stuff produced in China and calling it 'bistro' quality is wrong, and chips should be hot (please). I have not been so very disappointed in calamari anywhere like this for several years. My friend's Parmagiana was adequate, but very thin with few veg and 'warm' chips. The Bentleigh Club needs to employ a trained, qualified chef. Buying fresh ingredients would make such a big difference. Our rating is "Boarding House", not Bistro.
Once or twice a year I organise a lunch for a group of folk - mostly seniors and we've been going to the Bentleigh Club for quite a few years now. Plenty of parking, senior's meals are available and the serves are mostly generous. This is not gourmet dining, but it is reasonably priced, the food is OK, room is pleasant and the service is generally efficient and cheerful.
