This morning I tried her for the first time. Oh, my God. They are better than the best sopapillas I ever had (and I tried so many different restaurants in New Mexico). In fact, they are better than any doughnut or Indian Fry Bread that I also tried. The dough is different from Sopapillas or Donuts. It is more like the pastry you make cream puffs or éclairs, but instead of baking it, they cut it into squares and deep freeze it. They melt it in powder sugar. Outside crack, inside soft. No greasy feeling in my mouth like me often with donuts and some sopapillas. Tradition says you have to wear all black or another dark color so locals know why you smile from ear to ear when they see that the powder sugar has dusted your clothes. My photos show the powder sugar lumpy. It wasn't in the store, but we took her to go and you know heat and confectionery sugar lumps. It was still delicious. They are very generous with powder sugar. Coffee was great too. I tried the traditional cafe au lait and my husband had her decaffeinated coffee. Nice, smooth coffee. No bitterness.
The best Beignets! Freshly made in the premises! A wonderful experience. slightly crispy on the outside; soft, light and fluffy on the inside; lots of powder sugar! Great prices, delicious coffee too! Plenty of space in a cheerful, bright, friendly environment. Plus outdoor seating. And a DRIVE-Thru if you want to enjoy it at home or on the go. No need to go to the city – these beignets are traditional and PERFECT.
Coffee Call is a Baton Rouge tradition. I have had the pleasure of experiencing both dine-in and take-out beignets and coffee, and each visit has been pleasant. I've dined in with my family where we sit at the large table and enjoy a good catch-up conversation. The gentleman who was clearing the tables also made the experience very nice...he chatted with us and was very humorous : I've ordered at the drive-by window when it was raining (I noticed that the view from the window was super nice...we got to see the beignets being fried up close . Once, I even emailed the owner/manager from Yelp to inquire about buying a Coffee Call signature sweatshirt as a gift. We conversed and set up an exchange. Again, it was a very pleasant experience. I would recommend.
Amazing beignets, way better than anywhere I’ve had them before, and the hot chocolate was delicious. The atmosphere is very cozy and cute, and the staff are very quick at keeping the line short. The regular beignets and the beignet fingers are both worth it, but I recommend the beignet fingers if you have a larger group of people.
There has never been, and will never be, a better beignet. Literal heaven on a plate. Everytime we stop through LA, it is a must visit. You just haven't lived until you've gotten their hot beignets with a cafe lait. Get at least 1 order per person, because nobody will want to share these. Best place...10/10 recommend.
