Kunyit - Balwyn North

A group of us returned here recently and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. highlights were chicken and chive samosa, thai beef salad, kari ayam (really nice). give it a go. they should be busier than they are these days

My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant on a Friday. It was probably about half full, so we could get a table without any problems. The staff were friendly, but seemed very busy. It was sometimes difficult to get their attention.The food was good, but nothing to make it stand out from any other Thai restaurant. The portion sizes were adequate. However, price wise, it was probably about 25% higher than many other Thai restaurants I have eaten at. If the food was exceptional it would justify the prices charged, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Because of the prices, I won't be rushing back here to eat.

Ate there for lunch yesterday, we were the only 3 people in there. Had entrees and main courses. All were just ok. Service was pleasant but a bit slow considering no one but us there. BYO handy. Food went cold very quick as it was a cold day and the plates and dishes were obviously not pre warmed. Not cheat at $20 and $30 for main dishes although if anything servings were too big. Couple of other Thais we would choose before this one.

Organised lunch with friends (6) looking for somewhere to dine while actually having a conversation without shouting.Chose Kunyit and were not disappointed! We were made to feel comfortable from the time we arrived until leaving (which was well past closing time).The food was great. We had hoy jor and fried quail tossed in szechuan for entrees. The quail was tender and juicy while being crispy on the outside, yummy....For mains, we had Thai red curry duck with lychees, okra and eggplant. The sauce on this dish had so much flavour. It was not hot, you would need a side dish of chilli if you like it hot.We also had salt & pepper calamari and prawns, grilled thai duck salad, Thai basil fried rice with chicken & prawns and roti.The standout dish was the Thai duck salad which consisted mainly of duck and a very fresh salad packed with flavour.The entire meal including corkage came to $30 each including tip. Definitely recommend!

The restaurant space feels good. It is nicely located and laid out. Surprisingly so. The service is calm and moderately efficient. The food is mid range and occasionally just above. There's nothing in what we had out of a number of standards including pad Thai, steak and black bean sauce, etc that reaches above average heights. If anything, the place is rather confused about the style it's serving. It's neither Chinese, Thai or anything else. It's a confusing blend at best. Neither is it cheap, quite the opposite. But, it filled the spot at a family event on a mild Thursday night.
