Family was visiting town and it coincidentally worked out that it was blue crab season! We knew they'd have some amazing choices. They were very accommodated to allow me to have a grilled blue crab as I am GF! My husband got the seafood platter! Both parents got fried blue crab! We all loved our food it was such a classic southern dish, fried well, good prices and amazing service! It's a no-frills kind of place but you're going here for some really good food! And of course we grabbed the homemade desserts they were absolutely amazing! Parking is small, but it's worth the trip up here highly recommend coming for lunch we got in right away!
Always great, fresh and delicious local seafood here! This historic restaurant has been here awhile and is an old general store from 1900's. Always worth the stop along 17!
On our way back from Francis Marion Forest, we spotted a small rustic looking seafood restaurant in Awendaw, SC. We walked the door and saw that it was just as rustic on the inside as on the outside. This is a very casual restaurant that appears to be frequented by the locals when their looking for some down home cooking. We were greeted right away and were immediately seated. The service was exceptional, and the meals were served quickly. Not only does this restaurant serve numerous seafood dishes, but they also have sandwiches and burgers. They have an extensive variety of different beers. I ordered a cheese burger and the she crab soup. The burger was huge! The soup came with a little cup of sherry to mix in the soup. This place looks a little sketchy, but their food is absolutely fabulous. Prices range from $15 $30. For a meal. If you're up that way, I would suggest stopping in for a quick bite!
Visited Seewee Restaurant in Awendaw after a day of hiking. This is a cute local find that I just love. It's an older brick and wood building full of character. The tables are covered in sea scape patterns and the style is rustic decor. It is a very casual place and everyone seemed to know each other. We were greeted by our waitress and seated quickly. The menu has LOTS of local seafood selections. Oysters, crab, all kinds of grilled or fried fish, fish Po Boy sandwiches, she crab soup, burgers, salads and dessert. I ordered the She Crab Soup with a grilled shrimp salad. The She Crab Soup came with a small shot of dry sherry to add just before eating to bring out all the delicious flavors. Very sweet and creamy with chunks of delicious crab meat. The soup came with a side of the most delicious hush puppies I've ever tasted. Sooo good! The grilled shrimp salad had fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumber, zucchini and blackened, grilled shrimp with your choice of dressing. The salad was excellent. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The only thing to note is that the bathrooms are outside. So you have to exit the restaurant and walk around to the side of the building to access the restroom. Otherwise, it is a very quaint place with excellent food.
Great value! I wanted to really love this place, but maybe we just didn't pick the right dishes. We stopped in for lunch while heading to Charleston, and it's located in a charming old house. The service was excellent, and the hush puppies were delicious. I had the oyster po' boy, which was good, but I'm not a fan of mayo and would have preferred an aioli or remoulade instead. The fried flounder sandwich was also good, but if I'm being picky, both sandwiches came on the same hoagie roll, which was a bit too much bread for my taste. I chose onion rings as my side; they were tasty but slightly undercooked.
