Food and service were good although a little over priced for what you you get. Food was well seasoned and came out very fast. Drinks were really nice too
As a local living in Ascot, I have visited the Atalanta Bar & Greek 3 times since they opened early last year. In short, I’d say the restaurant is worth trying, as it offers contemporary, fine dining style Greek cuisine which is unique in this side of town. We’ve tried a number of their Meze dishes. Some dishes we tried were great but some were underwhelming. It’s slightly pricey, but it’s expected given it’s at Portside and the rent is high at this precinct. I wouldn’t say it’s good value for money as food portion is not big in general so if you are starving and just want to be fed at an affordable price, try Fresh N Wild Fish. Over my three visits, I’ve managed to try a number of their Meze dishes. Please note the below are based on my actual experience at Atalanta only and it’s just my opinion as a customer. The Spanakopita was very average and tasted bland. It was just an ordinary flaky pastry with spinach and feta cut into a pie slice, served on a big plate. No effort was put into the presentation at all. It looked and tasted just like a slice of regular spinach and feta pie that you could buy from anywhere. When I ate it, the temperature wasn’t hot enough for it and the pastry went cold soon after it hit the table. If I had known, I would not have paid $12.50 for it. They could have at least added a bit of Greek salad or dips on the side to make it “look” a bit more like a high end restaurant dish. As croquette lovers who have had many croquettes in our lives, when we ordered the Slow Cooked Goat Croquettes, we expected the dish to be absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Our croquettes were crispy on the outside but the inside was not hot enough. We didn’t get the kind of steam and temperature that you would normally get when you bite into a perfectly cooked croquette. There was no steam which would suggest it was not cooked at a high enough temperature. The filling also was average and we didn’t get enough flavour and aromatic from the goat either. For $14.50 a plate, they need to do better than this. We did express our disappointment to the front of staff who appeared to be the manager at that time and we did see her talking to the chefs in the kitchen afterwards. I ordered the Saganki, which is essentially burnt butter with raw organic Sunshine Coast honey, for a group of friends to share as an entree. Unfortunately it was not very well received and could not be finished amongst our group of 8. It was just too rich, and because we couldn’t taste anything but butter and sweetness, it just wasn’t very palatable. I don’t know if we were supposed to eat that dish with another dish? But on its own, we would not order it again. The Charcoaled Octopus is a hit and miss. The first time we had it, we were blown away and were really impressed. It was charcoaled to perfection. The texture was chewy, but not too hard, so it was very enjoyable to eat. The chilli combined with the grapefruit dressing was delicious. The second time we ordered it though, the texture felt like it was slightly overcooked so it tasted a bit hard. And the flavour wasn’t as good as the first time we had it. Something was missing. The size of the dish is also small for $16.50. The Ouzo Cured Ocean Trout would be a dish that I would recommend if you want to try something different. The actual Ocean Trout was diced finely and mixed with capers and topped with Samphire Tzatziki. It’s a new and creative way of eating the Ocean Trout. It’s a good mixture of textures and flavours coming from the Tzatziki and the Ouzo cured trout. Overall the dish taste slightly on the salty side but if you also order a salad to wash it out it’s not too bad. This is a great cold entrée to share to start the night. You probably could match it with some Ouzo. Portion is small but since it’s salty you can’t really eat a lot in one go. The Crab Moussaka was delicious, but the size of the serve was really small. It was served in a small round ramekin on a big plate, which made it look even sparse and stingy. Being a Meze, if it’s meant to be shared, each person probably could only get two bites if it’s shared by more than 4 people. It’s a very safe dish to order as I can’t imagine anyone to not like a Moussaka cooked in tomato essence. Anyone who likes a lasagne or baked eggplant would enjoy this dish in my opinion. For $16.50 though, I’d expect the size to be more generous than the small ramekin sized dish. The Greek Meatballs is also a safe dish to order. The three meatballs were served with risoni, braised tomato and feta. The meatballs were delicious and the tomato and feta flavours are conservative. If you like the Italian meatball and pasta, you will enjoy the dish. It was good, but not spectacular. Again, for $16.50 the serving size was small and could have been a bit more generous. Greek Slaw consists of green apple and yoghurt dressing. The slaw was light and refreshing and went well with the other savoury meat dishes. The green apples were crunchy and fresh. I thought it was a great dish and would recommend it if you order some meat dish. This is probably the only substantial salad dish on the menu. Watermelon, Tomato , Feta salad was well presented, but you wouldn’t expect anything less from a fine dining restaurant. Apart from the presentation and the creativity that was put into the dish, there really wasn’t much to rave about. Being a salad, there were’t much techniques required apart from cutting the ingredients and getting the flavours balanced. Watermelon, tomato and feta taste the way they are supposed to taste. Portion size is stingy too. Not a good sharing dish. It was obvious that some of the staff were trained to upsell in order to meet their shift target. On one occasion, the staff member must have thought we didn’t order enough food and suggested us to order a salad to “wash down” the other Meze dishes we ordered. One front of house staff even accidentally left a clipboard of note which stated their shift target was “$40 per head”! That explains all the upselling! fancynancypants.wixsite.com

My wife and I enjoyed a pleasant meal at Atalanta Bar and Greek on a Sunday evening. We dined on Saganaki, Goat Croquettes, the 'Goddess' Fries and the grilled mixed meat skewers for two. The service was very good (4) and the food was nice (3), but there was nothing exceptional about the meal. I tried a Greek beer - Mythos - and was not impressed. I would recommend that you steer clear. I would be happy to return to Atalanta, but won't be in any rush to do so.
