Service has also improved in the past year. They have had some really good waitresses come through to work seasonally. The kitchen is small so food does take a bit of time to come out, but it's all made from scratch and very much worth the wait. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Anchorage metro area. Chef Zach excels at the farm to table concept. I've tried a wide variety of menu items, and they've all been impressive. I'm very sad that they will be closing this location as I find it to be quaint, but look forward to patronizing their new location whenever they are able to reopen. Chef Zach puts a lot of heart and passion into his food, and I'm excited to see where this next chapter takes him. Last day at this address will be Sunday, July 21st. I'll be counting down the days til they reopen!
Tiny but mighty is what comes to mind when reviewing this place. We decided to stop here on our way back from doing the lower winner creek trail (also wonderful easy trail) The place itself is very tiny and rustic, and from the outside doesn't look like anything special, but the food is AWESOME! Fresh, delicious, and generous portion size. I couldn't finish my meal. This is definitely one of my new favorite places. I had their reindeer/caribou tacos and they were out of the caribou,so they served smoked chicken instead, and they had just the right amount of smoke. Sometimes crockpot style chicken like this, will taste too sweet, but these were perfect. Not too bbq sweet not too Smokey, just right. My husband had their udon vegetarian bowl and also said it was super fresh. He would order it again, and coming from an avid meat eater, this says a lot. I guess if I were going to make any type of suggestion for this place, it would just be that they could expand their drink menu. Can't wait to come back and try this place for brunch.
On our way back from a weekend camping trip my boyfriend and I stopped in around 10:30 am on a Sunday. The crowd was lively and the restaurant was full. There was plenty of outdoor seating but we decided to wait for a table inside. We admired the Alaskan rustic, home-y, chic interior and fun artwork on the walls. After not too long of a wait, we were comfortably seated near the kitchen. After reading the menu I decided on the Huevos and he decided on the Poutine. It took a little longer than normal but it was worth the wait when we were finally be able to enjoy these delicious dishes. The Huevos were flavorful and the portion was large. I enjoyed the fresh greens and delicious beans. The Poutine was well balanced with beef and potato chucks. Both dishes were fresh and flavorful. We both enjoyed the food here a lot! While it may take a few extra minutes to drive to Indian it is well worth it. Enjoy your next breakfast lunch or dinner here!
Wow. Wow. Wow, wow. This place satisfies on so many levels. First level: hiking. I come from an area (Columbia River Gorge, Oregon/Washington where there are numerous local joints to eat and drink after a long day of hiking. You spend all day salivating at the DEVASTATION you 're going to do when you get to one of these places post-hike. Once you arrive, you 'll share a pitcher with your friends, swap climbing stories, and gorge on gourmet burgers. Alaska 's Turnagain Arm area really doesn 't have a culture like this, unfortunately. Until now! I usually have to scramble to get back into Anchorage before everything closes. These folks stay open till 9:30 pm, on weekdays! No need to charge back into town! F&F is located in Indian, very close to the Indian Valley Trailhead: [hidden link] Imposing Indianhouse Mountain looms to the west and fantastic views of the arm are visible to the south. They have a cozy, hand-built indoor dining area. And an awesome deck outside. (While we were there we saw the owner/brewer of Anchorage Brewing Company dining! They are eventually going to have ABC beer on tap! There is outstanding attention to detail in everything. The menu is fresh, unique, and inventive (for Alaska, it 's downright futuristic . There 's something for everyone, and there 's very likely a ton of things you 've never had before. I got a burger, which incorporates local game meats. I got a salad instead of fries. The salad was enormous and had the best greens I 've ever seen in Alaska. (Apparently, they were grown in a greenhouse in Anchorage The bacon was the best I 've had in the state. (I later found out it was house-made! After dinner, the chef gave us complimentary doughnuts . I use quotes because it 's a little unfair to label them this. They are kind of a doughnut/beignet hybrid and they are fried fresh-to-order. This is the best doughnut I have ever had, full-stop. The owner/chef told us all the ways in which he strives to use as many local ingredients as possible, and it really shows. His passion is palpable. And his favorite restaurant is Jack Sprat, so you know you 're in good hands. I highly recommend visiting this place while you can. Why while you can? Well, I predict that as soon as everyone realizes how amazing this place is, there will always be long 1-2 hr waits. It 's that good. Eat there ASAP so you can brag to your friends that you were one of the first! This is about to become an Alaska institution! PS: they also have a drive-through with amazing coffee from Black Cup, if you want to grab some caffeine *before* a hike.
I can't begin to say enough good things about Froth and Forage. The food is reliably amazing the quality is quite uncommon in Alaska. The owners take extraordinary pride their product. They are extremely receptive to feedback as well, which is so rare here, as is the farm to table concept. At present the dining room is quite small, although there's a gorgeous patio if weather permits. Since everything is made fresh by the owner, service can be a little slow, so plan accordingly. Relax and enjoy some really phenomenal food! And try the poutine!!!
