Monte's Local Kitchen Tap Room - Amenia

We visited this restaurant in early winter 2018, and we were really impressed. The food and service were fantastic, making it a great experience for our large group, including children, who all enjoyed themselves. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were superb.

For appetizers, we ordered arancini served with a delicious sauce; they were crispy and perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed a wedge salad topped with blue cheese dressing and bacon, which was a good portion and the dressing was delightful. My partner ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes. While the salmon was a tad dry, it had a lovely flavor, and it was accompanied by roasted vegetables. As a vegetarian, I opted for the simple mac and cheese, paired with a side of buttered broccoli, which was cooked just right. The mac and cheese was as wonderful as my home recipe, made with multiple cheeses and a hint of smokiness. It had great flavor and the serving size was perfect. It just needed a little more warmth in the center, but that was quickly resolved in under a minute. We also enjoyed roasted bread and cornbread muffins, which were delicious. We were too full for dessert, but I highly recommend Monte's for dinner if you have the time to enjoy the scenic drive there!

The food is delicious and expertly prepared. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between upscale and farmhouse, fitting perfectly with the farm-to-table theme. On a busy Saturday evening, I enjoyed the cal salad and the local Bourbon glazed duck, both of which were flavorful and impressive. My friend was very pleased with his butcher's board and the medium-rare steak he requested. The other couple with us also savored their Brussels sprout and wedge salads, as well as steak and lamb dishes. We shared two reasonably priced bottles of wine recommended by Chef Dafna Mizrahi, which I found to be pleasantly earthy, especially considering her recent rise to fame as a winner on "Chopped." I will definitely return, and since I’ve just moved very close by, this could become my regular spot!

My husband and I have visited Montes about six times in the past two years. Although it's a bit of a drive, it's always worth it! This St. Patrick's Day, we decided to make a trip to Armenia, which was a big decision for us. We had the BEST corned beef, cabbage, and carrots for dinner—just delicious! The place was busy, but we were welcomed to sit at the bar, so we didn't have to wait. The new lounge area with a fireplace is a fantastic addition! It feels very cozy, and the service was excellent. We will definitely return... it never disappoints!

My wife and I have been here for almost many months. This is by far the best meal you will find without traveling to Poughkeepsie or Rheinbeck. Their quality, coupled with consistently excellent service and great cocktails, makes them a place in the Amenia/Dover area.
