So I can't say that the experience was perfect, but note that I still won five stars.
Serge is a genie cook. we had a fabulous dinner that began with fresh oysters that he flew out of the cap, followed by mustels with burned orange, trout with hummus and tasty lamb with adorned aubergine. the desert was the one above the top homemade baklava. each court turned out and beautifully presented. a real tasty bite!
Arrived to a quaint, cozy restaurant for a visit on a Saturday night for date night. We were personally greeted warmly by Serge, a passionate chef who definitely is accomplished and proud of his work. Contemplating the menu and wanting to start with a bunch of apps, we were told that under no conditions could we place an order for just apps and THEN order our entrees- we had to order our entire meal. We had no idea what we wanted for entrees and wanted to sample the apps first, but were given no other choice. We get that with kitchen timing and all... however, at their price point (high) AND the fact we were willing to accept delays in our meal delivery because WE wanted to dine the way we preferred, you would think that was ok.. but no. Not just a polite no, but an ADAMANT no. Yikes. Ok. Ok, so we got past that and ordered the oil poached carrots (deliciously executed and the sauce was divine) the falafel plate (tasty, but only 2 small falafel for $16.. and the smoked eggplant (exquisite Looking forward to our entrees , we were both sadly disappointed. The lamb was cooked perfectly to my request, however it was served to me cold, had ZERO seasoning (not even salt and pepper and with the same sauce used on the falafel plate- which was far too delicate and did not highlight the hearty lamb. The trout was also perfectly cooked, however, served on a HUGE bed of cold chickpeas with a green sauce that was also flavorless. Both entrees made for a very strange combination of hot and cold, and sadly lacked the flavor our appetizers had... and we were not impressed. At almost $40 per entree, it was a letdown. Not to be discouraged, we ordered coffee and an espresso and dessert. The espresso was served spilled all over the plate and was not espresso but a thin, watery concoction that wasn't even coffee. The coffee was also horrible. A second server happened by the table and upon seeing what we were served, apologized for the other waiter, swept our beverages away and brought us new, better coffees. The dessert (a toffee pudding) was tasty. Overall, not great, not overly horrible. The disappointment comes from paying almost $300 for dinner and not being able to enjoy the meal the way we had wanted to, from having dishes served that were temperature confused lacked flavor and a mediocre waitstaff experience. Maybe it was a off night. Maybe it's up and down like so many of the reviews on here seem to indicate. I believe the heart is in the right place, but somehow the execution isn't right on My suggestion is to go there and give it a try- but order apps only It's worth a visit.
My wife, brother, nephew and brother went to my brotherhood on 5/7/2022. my wife and brother are half-poor. let me first say that the old house that is located the restaurant has a lot of character and offers beautiful ambiente for the culinary experience. we started with the ordering of the roasted aubergine and roasted chicken wings. my brother said that the roasted aubergine was the same that her mother used her father when she grew up. the chicken wings were extremely tasty and were served over an salad that came from this world. my main course was the Moroccan chicken bastilla, which was tastefully seasoned, with what my wife tasted like cinnamon, and the baked dish in which she was served was tender and liquid. my nephew had the flank steak he said was oh my gott, that's so good my wife had the dorms while my sister-in-law had the skallops. my brother commented that the size of the scallops and the portion size was perfect. the portion sizes were only enough to leave them more, but not to leave them hungry. trust me that you want to sec, that's so good. the coating was very skillful, very clean and welcoming. the whispers we ordered were from the cheesecake and from the baklava to the sticky torfcake. all deserts were well made and very artistically presented. the owner came by a point to see how everything was and was very personal, polite and engaged. my wife, sister-in-law and the owner spoke in Armenian and Arabic and talked about where another part of their families came from. we will certainly go back for more in the future. if they are in the opposite or visit, they will pay them a visit. they will not be disappointed. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
Hands down one of my top 10 food tasting experiences. We wanted to try food from a different culture. We heard about Serevan's so we decided to take the drive from Brooklyn to Hudson Valley. We started our meal with yogurt soup, it was delicious. Then moved on to the main course which consisted of a sweet and savory fish dish and braised lamb chops. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and the flavor profiles were divine. Finally, we had dessert with was an Armenian coffee cake it was so good.It was a delight to witness the chef/owner work his culinary magic. The atmosphere was sweet and cozy. If you are looking for a restaurant where the food is made with love and passion I highly recommend giving Serevan's a try.
