The convent abbotsford

My brother and sister in law recently had their wedding here.Nice outdoor seating for 24 people was provided. As the wedding had over 100 guests most people stood.The service from staff on the day was very good.We only had a coffee at the cafe before the wedding as the reception was elsewhere.Nice gardens to explore if you have time.

The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a Catholic religious order, ran the convent for many years before it was turned into an artists' colony. It has many interesting things to see. The Convent is close to the city, it is easy to get to if you are prepared to walk a bit Around 10 buildings are on the site, each performing a separate function.

Had visited the convent to do a tour of the buildings. Did not expect to find a new venue for Sunday brunch. The bakery does great meals at very reasonable prices. We where surprised at the quality and the value . The only down side is it would be packed out in summer as the outdoor area would be a great place to bring the kids.

You'll also find this venue listed in various info places as the Abbotsford Convent. It's a very big complex of 19th and early 20th century buildings in grounds near the Yarra River just a few kms east of the city, and it was a convent with educational, work and accommodation facilities. In its hey day up to a thousand women and girls lived onsite.These days the Convent is an arts and culture venue with studios, exhibitions, markets and eateries. It's close to an educational farm for children, so you could combine visits to both. Check websites ahead of time if you want to go on a day when there are market stalls or special events.

Went to the Convent at Abbotsford for brunch - a lovely meal, love the atmosphere of the Bakery where we ate in what was the original kitchen of the convent.We then walked around the gardens and other areas of the convent.Have been here before but always worth another visit and a meal too.
