It was telling the customers to order only what you can eat and pack and carry home whatever is in excess. That is a great concept. The service was quick and efficient. The food we ordered was Masala Dosa which was as good as any we get in the best of restaurants in South India. The only problem was the super large size of the dosas. Same with coffee. One glass of coffee would have satisfied the needs of two easily. The seating is a bit cramped and resembled mid level restaurants in TN. Seems to be a decent enough option for authentic South Indian food while in Colombo. The prices are comparable to those of restaurants in Tamil Nadu. There is some facility for parking of vehicles in an adjacent building.
Sri Vani Vilas Hotel is a 100% vegetarian restaurant located in a bustling bazaar in Colombo 12. It is conveniently situated across from the Armour Street Police Guardroom. The restaurant employs male and female waiters who are friendly and attentive. I have visited this place numerous times, solely to indulge in their high-quality 'ulundu vadai'. The accompanying sambol is just as delicious as the vadai itself. They offer a variety of other vegetarian dishes that are equally tasty, but their ulundu vadai is the standout item, especially when served fresh and piping hot. The demand for their vadai is evident, as every patron in the restaurant seems to have one on their plate. They also have a take-away counter for all their dishes and provide wash basins for diners to clean their hands before and after eating, as they do not provide utensils. The vadai is a perfect finger food, to be enjoyed by dipping it in the sambol and savoring the flavors. In my opinion, no 5-star hotel in Sri Lanka can rival the vadai served at Sri Vani Vilas. It is second only to the ulundu vadai made in Chennai, India.
I bought veg rice here and thought my day will great after lunch but it was horrible.. i found a whole garlic and its peel and a long hair in my food. I was like why should we pay and eat a nasty food. I had the worst experience ever.. i dont know how people make such a **** soo famous.. i have attached the pics as well.. note to vani vilas owner: PLEASE SHUT DIWN THIS HOTEL AND EARN FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE. You cant cheat customers like this.. will not recommend it and guys please dont eat vani vilas food.. its a blunder
First of all, I don't think there is parking available on a busy weekday at this restaurant, so it's best to park your vehicle further away and walk or take a tuk tuk. The food was good and the restaurant seemed decent to me. As a local, I found the place clean enough to have a meal. The food was also delicious and I have no complaints about the service.
The south Indian food that they have is just simply amazing! This is the best place i would recommend people to have meals if they are craving for south Indian! The prices are also really cheap and is completely value for money! I would recommend people to go and visit this place atleast once!
