Lovely little restaurant in the centre of Zirl. It only has approx 8 tables so we had to wait approx 10 minutes for a table but it was worth it. Very friendly host, good wine and tasty food. It was also great value
We arrived around 930/10pm on a rainy, stormy night--- I was super stressed due to weather closing the route from Zirl to Mittenwald, where our airbnb (rental) was already booked. We were stuck---I put on my rain jacket and my friend and I stopped at the random Austrian town of Zirl. I saw some bright red, green and white lights and was hopeful this meant Italian, "oh please be open", I thought!!Upon entering, a woft of italian spices with a bit of love hit my nose. I immediately asked for wifi and food. We needed to find a place to stay. Matteo, the owner and chef, as we we come to know was completely over the top accommodating by calling around to find a hotel, pouring me a glass of wine, and talking with us kindly about this and that. THE FOOD***I ordered my, maybe top dish ever, arriabiata pasta (spicy tomato with penne) and my friend ordered a margharita pizza. Both came out in a timely manner, given large portions for a completely fair price (his food is worth more $$) and well, the food was perfect. The pasta was perfectly covered in *spicy tomato, clearly homemade, tomato sauce and also al dente! My friend commented on his pizza so many times, I, who rarely eats pizza, asked to try it. The crust was delicious-- not too much sauce, firm and well, it was absolutely delicious! I actually was upset to find out the maid in our hotel through away my leftovers as I skipped breakfast bc I was looking forward to eating that arriabiata again! Delicious food, atmosphere, host and chef, and a salvation during this stressed out travelers night! Thank you and I only wish you could teach me to make equally as delicious arriabiata... :)
