Something you can't stop experiencing in uluru (also known as yesterday's rock), is enjoying the beauty of the desert sky at night. Of course for those who live in cities, with our light pollution, seeing all those stars immediately is a shock with this imposing scenario, it is not surprising that dinners are organized in the style of the sounds of silence. the ingredients are these: welcome cocktail at sunset (with views of the uluru), dinner with typical taste to the exit, didjideroo music (the long Australian flute, which has a particular sound) to amenize the night and explanations about the constellations of the southern hemisphere, which particularly seemed super interesting. Dinner can be booked from the same hotel (better in advance, because they don't have many places) and starts at the Spanish time of 6:30.

This was supposed to be the highlight of my trip to Uluru but my booking was cancelled on very short notice a day before our trip for necessary maintenance and works . The only compensation I was offered was an upgrade for a Night at the Field of Light. Unfortunately my friend had just done it and told me to absolutely avoid . So I am sorry to say that this ruined my whole trip to Uluru and demonstrates an absolute lack of care for customers.

We had been looking forward to this experience for months and sadly it was a disaster. If you have a mobility issue please note the walk from the bus to the sunset viewing area is loose sand and very difficult. Sunset was stunning and I had a small plate of beautiful vegetarian nibbles prepared which was great. Once the sun set you make your way down a different path to the dining area I was offered a seat in the buggy which was appreciated as I couldn't walk down the sand path) Dinner tables looked lovely and the didgeridoo player was great. I had advised I was vegetarian at booking time. So when our table lined up for the food we we're last table) several dishes were already empty!!! I asked for my vegetarian meal but was told there is nothing prepared but you have lots of vegetables to eat from the buffet. Mmmmm ok sit down at our table were the staff had placed a light and we had thousands of beetles swarm our food in all the drinks in our hair etc it was disgusting. The other guests at our table 4 Swiss tourists were horrified and noone could eat their food. The people at the next table had young girls upset as the beetles got tangled in long hair etc. We asked for the lights to be taken away and the drinks and food as it was ruined. The indigenous talk was entertaining and the stars beautiful. We ate dessert in total darkness due to the bugs. Whilst I appreciate this is the outback. They need to plan for this, eg eat inside Insect proof marquee Then enjoy the great outdoors. This really was a major fail and needs better planning when the bugs are out in thier thousands. I'm sure it wouldn't pass food hygiene safety, even a warning that your dinner may be invaded by thousands of flying insects would be something. We all agreed we would look back on this expensive experience as our OMG travel tale experience. On a positive all the staff were very lovely and apologetic. We understood it wasn't thier fault but you can't have peoples food/drinks covered in bugs that once they land they don't fly off again. Management need to do better.
