Good Catch Boil House is a seafood restaurant inspired by Louisiana cuisine. It also has a sports bar atmosphere with large TV screens, 18 craft beers from local Ontario breweries, and a variety of fried foods such as chicken wings, fried soft shell crab, and fried oysters. Seafood enthusiasts will appreciate the extensive menu options, including a lobster roll, a seafood boil that you eat with plastic gloves, and a wide selection of fresh oysters. If you spot world oyster shucking champion and Chef Patrick McMurray behind the oyster bar, be sure to say hello. He worked with Good Catch Boil as a consultant to enhance their oyster program.
Good Catch Boil House is similar to a contemporary Red Lobster with a creative twist. It has become a popular trend: traditional southern seafood, seasoned and served in plastic bags on the table. Don't forget to wear the obligatory plastic bibs and gloves - it can get messy!
The event was very well organized, and I felt like a celebrity. The restaurant really went all out with so much food and all-you-can-drink booze! We were greeted with appetizers and free oysters at the bar. I totally felt like a newbie when they had a table set up for bloggers to take photos with blinding flashes of light. Later on, we were seated in groups of 3-5 for a tasting menu, and I was so full by the end of the night. As we left, we were even given coupons and gifts, which was awesome. As for the food, I honestly ate so much that I can't remember half of it haha. The restaurant has a good variety, but their seafood dishes are definitely the best. When I returned on a regular day, the service was good, despite being busy. The waitresses were attentive and friendly, so service gets a checkmark for sure! If you plan on visiting, I recommend trying the fried oyster sliders (8.5/10 for taste) and the bagged seafood with their house sauce. Everything else was just average, and I would probably steer clear of the salad as it was a bit bland.
Compared to the first Louisiana boil chain that opened in Toronto, Good Catch Boil House is practically palatial. The high ceilings, modern décor and ample room makes it a place you can actually go and hang out at. Sports fans will love the restaurant since there’s plenty of television screens – who doesn’t want to suck back seafood while watching basketball?<br/ <br/ Sticking with only one Louisiana boil-type dish, we decided on the snow crab legs $18.95 a pound) with corn $1 for two small pieces) thrown in to nibble on. Generally, the signature blend of flavouring is a good choice as the restaurant mixes a few sauces into one. At Good Catch, theirs also incorporates curry … tasty if you like it, but doesn’t really sing ‘boil’ to me. Although, I did use the sauce for dipping soft garlic bread $3.95) into. Note to self: next time stick with the Cajun blend.<br/ <br/ Nonetheless, the medium spicy level was the perfect amount of heat and the crab was prepared nicely. I was surprised by how
