The Greenhouse Tearoom - York

On Sunday, July 30th, my companion and I visited the restaurant and ordered two coffees and two sandwiches. Our orders were taken promptly by a young blonde girl, for which I commend her. The coffees were decent, but took longer than expected to arrive. Despite there being only a few customers in the restaurant, our sandwiches took 35-40 minutes to come out. When I inquired about the delay, the girl mentioned she had forgotten to submit our order to the kitchen and they were now closed. Her lack of apology and nonchalant attitude were disappointing. It would have been nice if she had offered us a free dessert or a discount on our drinks. Due to her poor attitude and lack of hospitality, we will not be returning to the restaurant. If they are going to charge £9 for a sandwich, they should ensure their staff has proper training in customer service.

I have dined at this restaurant for lunch multiple times and have always enjoyed the great food and service. It is not your typical garden center cafe. My favorite dish is the prawns with grapefruit and avocado on sourdough bread.

I don’t mind paying £9.50 for a sandwich. However when there is a lot of unpleasant margarine and very little filling I do mind. The bread is very crunchy on the outside which isn’t great for elderly guests teeth. Looking at the average age range I am surprised they don’t consider it. The small amount my mother ate broke her tooth. Not a good experience.

Food is excellent, cakes amazing too. Cannot fault it, lovely setting. Will definitely be back. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Lovely place next to an excellent nursery.

Beautiful cakes, breakfast served in a lovely conservatory, surrounded by plants from the garden centre. Standout cake was the courgette, lime, gin and sprinkled generously with pistachio. Also an amazing sausage patty served in a warm buttered bun. Perfect coffee, homemade sourdough and can’t wait to try more on the menu. Great place to stop off the A64 to or from the coast and a fantastic garden centre.
