From a purely food perspective, the food was excellent―deserving of its 3 AA Rosettes and in my opinion, it could possibly hold a Michelin Star. The tasting menu for the night included: cryogenic mojito, consisting of crushed liquid nitrogen cooled meringue and sorbet; autumn vegetables (root veg and mushrooms); veal, perfectly done, with turnips and allium sauce; stone bass, flaky with charred skin and served with samphire (the dish was a little on the salty side for me); BBQ beef cheek and a piece of sirloin (cheek was slightly dry, sirloin was nice not amazing); meadowsweet ice cream; douglas fir cream (both desserts were delicious). The service, on the other hand, was slightly lacking. There was one waiter who was particular helpful, taking the time to explain each dish and paired wine; the others were more lacklustre, with one in particular, who wasn't rude but seemed rushed. At one point, I was even not provided with cutlery. The pacing of the entire experience was a bit too fast for my liking, with the paired wines coming too quickly after the previous course but too early for the next course. Overall, though, my experience was very positive. Hudson's is one of the best places for fine dining in York and it's definitely worth going at least once.
My partner and I spent one night here to celebrate a birthday, and we will definitely return! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by two staff members, Wayne and another gentleman, who helped us with our car and luggage. The hotel itself was lovely, and our room was more than adequate, complete with robes, slippers, and complimentary drinks. The friendliness of the staff throughout the restaurant was outstanding. Overall, we had a wonderful experience!
As the only 5-star hotel in the city, I was surprised that not many people seem to know about the restaurant. We started with a drink and chose the tasting menu with wine pairing. Although there were only two tables occupied that night, I felt rushed to begin our meal after just having two sips of my drink. The food was fantastic—possibly the best I’ve had in the city. The pairings were both excellent and unique. The prices are reasonable, making it definitely worth a visit.
I had an absolutely wonderful experience! The food was excellent, with options for locally sourced ingredients as well. I enjoyed nine courses of pure delight in a relaxed atmosphere, and the service was impeccable.
