Jū Jiǔ Wū Yú Yuán - 斜里町

This is more like a small dish restaurant than an izakaya. It costs 500 yen per person and then each additional dish is 200 yen until you are full. The dishes keep coming endlessly to the table until the landlady serves all of her daily stock of dishes. Starting with the satisfying smoked salmon from Lake Toba, all the vegetable, meat, and fish dishes were unexpectedly high quality for the price and we were completely satisfied. Of course, we finished everything without leaving any. This is irresistible.

Delicious homemade dishes made by a friendly mother keep coming one after another. Everything is delicious, but my favorite is the buttered potatoes. I usually end up eating too much. I hate to waste any of the dishes, so I always ask to take the leftovers home.笑

When you want to eat local cuisine, this is the place to go. The menu is chef's choice, with a focus on fish sourced from fishermen, foraged mountain vegetables, and salted salmon. Due to the impact of Covid-19, there are days when the restaurant is not open, so it is recommended to call ahead before visiting.
