We visited for Sunday lunch so the menu was smaller, but the food was fantastic and the service was top-notch. It was a truly enjoyable experience, and at £45 for 2 courses or £55 for 3, it was a great treat.
We made a reservation for afternoon tea and were excited for the experience. Although the website mentioned parking, it was difficult to find as it was hidden behind the hotel. After finally finding a parking spot, we had to block each other in. We arrived early and were allowed to register our cars and explore the shops. Once seated for afternoon tea, we had to wait for a server. The staff seemed unenthusiastic and disinterested. The food took a while to arrive and the server couldn't explain the items. The sandwiches were average, the scones were undercooked, and when we asked for fresh ones, they were still raw. The cakes were good. When it came time to pay, we requested to remove the service charge and leave a cash tip instead, which the waitress questioned and rolled her eyes at. As we overheard the waiting staff complaining about us, we decided not to leave a tip. The setting was nice and the afternoon tea was decent but expensive. Unfortunately, the staff's behavior spoiled the experience.
A group of five family members and friends visited The Lygon for afternoon tea on Monday 25/03/24. Despite not being young, we were seated on uncomfortable sofas around a coffee table. The tea for our party of 5 arrived late after we were initially given tea for 4. The gluten-free scones served to my wife were very hard, while the regular scones were crumbly and fell apart before we could add cream and jam. To top it off, a 12.5% service charge was automatically added to our bill, which we did not pay. Overall, it was a disappointing experience at The Lygon and as locals, we are hesitant to return.
