With being registered Coeliac with a Gluten-Free diet I have to know they can cater for me to which they weren 't really very helpful with the wording going along the lines of we think we can cater for you which for the prices they charge is not really the attitude you would expect. I ordered their Carvery meal and a G/F crumble custard. We turned up today and were told the crumble wasn 't available so what was the point in ordering in advance?I went for my carvery and had to enquire at what was available to me only for the chef/server to have to ask what there was grrrrrr. The Yorkshire puddings were right next to the roasters and all the customers were taking them with their tongs OVER the roasters which would 've then caused cross-contamination when bits fell into the roaster tray! Those said roasters were rock hard by the way!The beef I had was gristly and that gristle would not cut with the knife, the turkey was dry and I struggled to chew and swallow it, there was no white normal mashed potatoes but a mocked up mash of carrot turnip so don 't know if there were any potatoes in it really! I then had an Eton mess for pudding and it was so sharp with the jelly/juice it was unpalatable! So, I didn 't have a nice experience at all really!
I had a starter and main for about £16. Dessert would have been an extra £4.Everything was cooked and okay for me although my Thai spiced salmon fishcakes were actually without detectable spice compensated by a chilli dressing on my leaves which wasn't pleasant, but my compadres were upset about dry burgers and an odd soup. I said they should complain but they decided not to. Second visit first time I had the veg curry which wasn't bad at all.
I have dined at this restaurant several times and once again tonight. The menu offers a variety of options and there is a choice between dining in the restaurant or the more casual bar area with a fire. They offer both a la carte and table d'hote options, with an extensive selection of wines. The presentation of the dishes is excellent, as is the taste. The soup and fish were particularly delicious. As a guest, I also had a very enjoyable breakfast. The service was friendly and attentive. I can't find any faults with the place or the food. Overall, it was a lovely experience.
The first time I've really eaten here on 3 visits. The staff was kind and not too aggressive. The food took a little time, but I think it shows it's fresh, so there's no complaints from me.
One evening, we decided to stop by this restaurant on a whim and were greeted by wonderful staff who went above and beyond. We chose the carvery option, which offered three different types of meat and a variety of delicious vegetables, all served hot and flavorful. The chef was friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list was impressive and they also had great real ales available. Overall, it was a fantastic evening that didn't break the bank.
