The Gavel Public House - Wrentham

First time in a long time going to the gavel service was not 100%. I will knock that up to shift change and the nice weather. Will try again to see what happens.

We had a great meal but the ventilation was poor and the whole restaurant was smoky. To the point of our eyes tearing up and coughing. Service was slow due to lack of servers but the food and drinks were excellent...

20 minute wait for our reservation for indoor seating and took an outdoor seat to get service. Food was excellent. Staff was friendly and apologetic. You have to keep in mind what the restaurant business has gone through over the pandemic. Everyone there was putting in effort. Little uncomfortable seating for my preference but I’d definitely go back.

Very disappointed. We showed up for our reservation and was told it would be about 30 45 minutes wait unless we wanted to sit on the sidewalk. We decided to wait and it ended up being about an hour and a half. There was a table outside open the entire time we waited that we were told is reserved ONLY for parties of 5 or more. So, if no large parties come, the table just sits there empty. We could have sat and ate our food (as a party of 4) and been gone before anyone needed the table, yet we waited for an hour and a a half with 2 small hungry children. Very disappointing. It seemed they only had one server for the entire restaurant as well which is just very unrealistic. She was working so hard and doing a great job and I truly felt bad for her. I understand restaurants were hit hard with covid and most places are under staffed, but I think management really needs to take a look at things and make some changes. Their food is great and I really want to go back again, but not sure I will. This is the 2nd bad experience I had last time I was told I could come and sit outside with my dog. I drove from further away with my dog and when I got there they said they only allow service dogs so I had to leave. Seems like some lack of communication along with the other issues. Disappointing seeing I used to go there all the time, but clearly things have changed.

This was a great find! I love trying new places. I am looking forward to going back soon.
