The menu has a range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. I had trouble selecting a starter as there were several that sounded delicious. In the end I chose the belly of pork and it was great. My friends all enjoyed their choices too. I chose lamb for my main course and again it was lovely. Two of our group had the halibut and also commented how nice it was. A small dessert range but again beautifully served.I would definitely go back to this restaurant.
We are so disappointed that we don't live closer to Findon because we would love this to be a regular treat. It was definitely one of the best three meals I have ever had and the staff are so lovely and service was spot-on.
Really great service food. Shame that we were overcharged for 3 courses when we both only had two,
We have eaten at the Sylvan Oak a couple of times previously, notably last August when we had a very good meal, we could not fault the meal on this occasion top notch. However we went here for my wife's birthday with friends and we were very disappointed. Two of us had for starters the Scallops,Lobster Caviar Lasagne with Lobster Bisque, this dish lacked real flavor and the pasta was simply not good, the menu says Scallops yet you get one! mmm sorry this dish was not good. I had the lamb rump, what I had was OK, but the portion size was poor, and the vegetable were all diced up very small, I have not had vegetables like this since I was a child, sorry this dish was lacking class. My friend had the deer, well I thought I was short changed, he had very little in the way of meat, and again not that well presented. Our ladies both had halibut, clearly the better choice. But overall we left feeling this was an expensive poor meal, and not good value for money.
We booked a pre Christmas evening meal for four, and what a fabulous culinary experience we encountered. As two of our party are vegetarians, we were a little apprehensive as we had not seen the menu prior to booking. However our concerns were rightfully put aside!Whilst perusing the menu we enjoyed a local sparkling wine from the wiston estate just outside of Steyning)crisp cold and dry, a worthy champagne beater! We ordered our starters and mains whilst warm rolls and olives with oil were served.Four different starters all exceptional, the mushroom gateaux was a just amazing!,as was the scallops and vegetarian tartlet. The wine list is fascinating, with wines that are rarely seen in restaurants, I must say the Turkish wine we chose was excellent, and must return to sample more from the list. Our mains came, beautifully presented Michelin star, we feel) and all delicious, the partridge with black pudding, celeriac lasagne venison all gladly received. Can we manage a pudding? Well it would be rude not too! So to finish our evening we had scrumptious apple tart and a trifle that in our companion’s opinion was the best ever eaten. We give thanks and wishing the chefs and staff a happy new year!, one in which we will return!
