I have never been to a Toby before so was looking forward to a traditional roast dinner , unfortunately i think we picked the wrong day. The first issue was when we eventually got to the counter the Lamb had all gone , I settled for turkey and beef instead, the young man attempting to carve gave me some very ragged pieces which looked like they had been cut with a chainsaw. The second carver was more interested in dancing to the piped music , most of the vegetables were available but the take out staff kept taking large amount to put into the take away containers. The meal itself was questionable quality, roast potatoes were awful with a really tough outer skin , the rest of the vegetables very bland and lukewarm, turkey was good but the beef very tough and chewy. Overall the meal was poor , however I will give the place a second chance and go when it is a little quieter. I do think the place needs a re vamp , it looks tired inside and the counter needs to be cleaned during service, the carving staff were just throwing joint strings on the floor.
Arranged to visit for the carvery. Was a bit worried by previous reviews but need not have been. carvery was good, plenty of meat given. Large choice of vegetables (however no sprouts which are a favourite of mine). Carvery comes with a dessert which was a surprise and tasty choices. Service was very good and friendly and efficient.
We used to have Sunday lunch almost every week. Sadly since the refurbishment, the atmosphere has changed and the food is not as good as it was.
Called here with friends late afternoon on a Saturday and we wanted a drink and light food sandwiches or similar. There were 6 of us but we were greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner and taken to a table straight away. Service was excellent and we chose a variety of food the people who had the Yorky wraps filled Yorkshire puddings were delighted and others who had a variety from mac cheese to pigs in blankets were all very happy. No complaints whatsoever and we will almost certainly return at some stage with family members and try the carvery which looked good.
Last week my husband and I enjoyed a lovely carvery meal here. So it was all the more disappointing when we went again yesterday that we had to walk out without ordering anything. We were shown to a table opposite a group with at least 4 out of control children. The screaming was so ear-splitting that we could not make ourselves heard, plus they were banging on the table and kicking chairs. We asked to be moved to a quieter area but were told only the bar area was available which was not table service. So we had no option but to leave. I feel it is totally unacceptable that you allow that kind of behaviour to go unchecked, presumably because you are afraid that if your staff say anything to them it will result in bad reviews. Well instead you will get bad reviews from the civilised customers who have to suffer. And before I get accused of being anti-child, there were plenty of children there who were sitting quietly and behaving, so it is possible. Needless to say we will not be visiting again.
