My wife and I saw an advertisement on our local community group stating that this establishment was offering good quality fish and chips for takeout. According to the group, the cost was £7.50 each, but orders had to be placed in advance. My wife called to place an order, and the person on the phone, who sounded like an older woman, was abrupt and failed to listen to her questions, speaking over her instead. Despite this, we managed to place our order. When we arrived to pick up our food, my wife encountered the same rude older woman who told her the price was £8.50 each, even though the community group had advertised it for £7.50. The woman seemed unconcerned with this discrepancy. My wife only had £15 in cash, as we had only ordered for two people. Additionally, there were dogs running around the area, which we found unhygienic. It appears that the price may change depending on the customer, as members of the local group continued to report paying £7.50. This will be our first and last time using this pub takeaway, as we found the portion size of the fish and chips to be small for the price.

Although the Magpie and Parrot are not able to open for dine-in service, they are offering a fantastic takeout option. I ordered and collected our fish and chips from outside the pub. All the food is made fresh to order and it was absolutely delicious!

I have driven past this place many times and always wondered if it was a pub or a private house. Tonight, we found out it's actually both! Carole and some regulars gave us a very warm welcome. We had an excellent and very affordable fish and chip supper, and there was even a beautiful pub dog. We will definitely be returning soon. The pub also has a lovely garden. The interior has a very traditional country pub feel, and Carole, the owner, took the time to chat with us as new customers. We are excited to come back for jazz night and plan to bring friends. Thank you for the hospitality.

Working on behalf a local school, myself and a couple other students were recommended to this venue by another school. We were looking to host a summer party for around 100 of our teachers and Sixth Form Leavers, so we contacted Carole, who gladly invited us over to have a look to make sure we were happy with what she had to offer. Although we didn’t spend much time in the pub itself, the marquee was a fantastic entertaining space. The bar was stocked, the dance floor quickly filled, and the decking area provided a quieter area for some of our guests to drink on the summer’s evening. Carole was very easy to work with something hard to find considering we were just a couple of 18 year olds. We were given great prices for marquee hire and the authentic hog roast (which went down a charm! . The bar staff were also incredibly friendly to both students and teachers present. The bathroom facilities for the marquee aren’t amazing but were fine for the tone of the evening just make sure you have a full look around before you book! Would definitely recommend Carole and the Magpie and Parrot, and we’re sure our school will be returning again next year!
