Sakura Japanese Sushi On Stratford Road

Best Sushi in Winston Salem, bar none. From a former So. California girl who has been eating Sushi since 1961 in restaurants that were owned and run by Japanese: this is consistently the best sushi and sashimi I 've had here. I can 't compare it to other places in High Point or Greensboro because I haven 't tried any of their 'Japanese ' restaurants. I 've lived in Winston Salem only five years now and I 've tried four other sushi places and Sakura has the freshest fish of any, and they actually know how to prepare tempura so that it is light and lacy. This is also the only place I know of where you can get some shiso, which is a leaf often found at Japanese sushi restaurants in California, and which my daughter and I like very much. Our favorite waiter is Luke. He 's very knowledgeable and speaks some Japanese, even though he is of Chinese decent and grew up in Indonesia. I, my daughter, a friend and my two grandsons love this place. Only things missing in presentation are daikon threads that usually accompany some sushi dishes and sashimi (takes some skill in learning how to do this); and the traditional style of serving white fish, like red snapper, with ponzu sauce with finely shredded topping of scallion or tobiko. One dish I miss that doesn 't appear on any Japanese menu here locally is Sukiyaki, one of the best and most well known nabi dishes of Japan.

Craving to go Back!. Loved, loved, loved this place! I have tried sushi all over, and it does not compare to the freshness and amount you get here. I always ask the server what they recommend and they have never let me down. The service is quite enjoyable and look forward to eating there again!

Love this place!. Cannot get enough especially SUSHI! The best in Winston, by far! Try their new Lucky Roll so good! Everyone from sushi chef's to servers (especially Yani! are so helpful and friendly, never disappointed here. Coming into to my favorite time of year at Sakura because my girl I can sit on patio, enjoy sake or wine and awesome sushi tried all the others in town Sakura does it the best! They also have a pick up window, makes it easy to decide what to pick up for dinner on the way home call it in and ready when I get there!

Excellent sushi. The quality of the food is only surpassed by the service!

I had the Stratford role and the fried rice with shrimp sauce. I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was. You have to get the shrimp sauce with the rice!
