I've had both better and worse Mexican cuisine. Service was very slack compared to most other restaurants of this kind. Drinks are 2.30 here, that is very steep in my opinion. I wouldn't make a special trip to dine here but if you're in the area and in the mood for Mexican then Monterrey would be ok.
I am 23 and have been going to this restaurant for the past 14 years. I grew up there, as my parent's and I went every Sunday during the week! We grew to love the staff and a friendship bloomed! Too many good stories and no enough room to write! I miss this place the people, food and kind atmosphere a lot
This is our second time dining here. I ordered the chicken fajitas dinner. The chicken was dry and lacked seasoning. It tasted like cardboard!! We will probably return, but I WILL NOT order the fajitas again here! I was truly disappointed. What disappointed me even more was the manager's attitude when I brought it to his attention. Don't insult my intelligence OR my taste buds! That's not how the chicken should taste!!
A traditional Mexican restaurant that delivers on point, every time. We've been enjoying this place for lunch for a few years now. All of your favorites are here tacos, fajitas, burritos, queso dip, and more. Reliably good food, prompt service, attentive staff and at a reasonable price.
So Monterrey is a decent restaurant here in Winston-Salem. Lots of the old cliché things (Sombreros, neon Corona signs, ranchero music, etc. . But the service is good, quick and efficient. I guess the popular thing to order here are the fajitas Texana. they come to the table sizzling on an iron skillet with onions, peppers, and tomatoes, either steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, or all 4. My favorite are the Quesadillas Monterrey. 2 large quesadillas with shrimp, steak and chicken with a salad of shredded lettuce, sour cream and guacamole. I have had a few other items on the menu and they are all fairly decent, nothing that will blow your socks off or have you proclaiming it to be the GOAT but serviceable when you are looking for decent Mexican food.
