Smith Restaurant - Winnipeg

Try the Steak Tartare or the steaks. The wine list is extensive and the deserts are really good. The service is superb.

Stayed at the Inn decided on a nightcap before calling it a day. Bartender made us a yummy Pina Cola umbrella and all. Great atmosphere very nice staff -way to end the dsy

We were the only people eating in the bar at 4:30 this past Sunday. The service was very attentive... and our server offered several good suggestions for drinks and dinner. Unfortunately the kitchen apparently wasn't as detail conscious. I ordered the pickerel ... which I have often suggested to business colleagues when I recommend staying at the Inn at the Forks. I will never recommend it again - with the fear that my friends' fish will arrive in the same state that mine did. Overcooked with the consistency of jerky and the butter and caper sauce tasting of a plastic/ old margarine. This was extra disappointing because they are not shy about the prices they charge. It will be a while before I try this restaurant again - there are many alternatives in this fine dining price range.

A business colleague and I had an early dinner at Smith Restaurant last week. He insisted that we start with the Goldeneye Croquettes, which was a good call on his part. They were excellent (although there were only three of them...). I had the 9-ounce New York strip loin, which was well-prepared, with winter squash and beets as sides. No complaints - good preparation, nice presentation, efficient and friendly service. A good place for casual, business/casual, or even slightly more upscale dining.

Having just flown into Winnipeg and collected a rental car, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant, Smith. The decor was simple and modern with a lot of exposed wood. Our server was very pleasant and helpful, as a board of warm bread and butter was placed in front of us. I had the goldeneye croquettes, with mango, which were delicious, but too salty for my taste, while my friend had a (large) hamburger; this was initially insufficiently cooked, but the server took it back to the chef, and it was perfectly cooked when it returned. We both had berries and sorbet for dessert; the sorbet was utterly delicious!
