The cuisine leans more towards Spanish-Asian fusion rather than strictly Asian. Personally, I wish they were listed on OpenTable so I could make reservations without having to call. I detest speaking on the phone! *lol*
First time back here in years. The food was so unbelievably good with flavour combinations that just popped in your mouth. I could eat their pork belly all day long! The main reason im writing this review is because we had a small issue, and the server and owner were extremely quick to rectify, apologize, and go above and beyond. With the level of service we received, I'd keep going back even if the food sucked. I'll definitely be back over and over and over again. Amazing food and amazing service. Beyond amazing service. Unbelievable service.
Beautiful, breathtaking, creative, sweet, savoury, vibrant… Deer Almond crafts a gorgeous and intimate dining experience that I was truly surprised to find in Winnipeg. Patrons must try chef’s imaginative tasting menu that includes inspiration from Italy, Japan, Germany, Ukraine, and others providing an tasteful experience that is somehow new and nostalgic. The restaurant is warm and cozy, while the service provided makes every customer feel personal as though they’re a celebrity that evening. I had no expectations and only went because a local (and very smart) barista at Little Sisters Coffee Maker recommended it, but I left feeling like I just had the best meal of 2023. Deer Almond is perfect for a romantic evening or an occasion worth celebrating as there is no doubt you’ll leave beyond satisfied. I recommend the bone marrow w/chanterelles, goldeneye nigiri, beet agnolotti, and peanut semifreddo (which has been on the menu for 11-years). As my bartender said, I’ve only tried a quarter of the menu, so I’m ecstatic for my return (hopefully soon).
Dining here was an experience I will remember for years. Every dish was unique, beautiful, and delicious. It felt like I was experiencing art. Four of us dined together on an evening where there was a fixed menu, and we shared so we could try every single dish on offer. Every dish was a joy. The chef made use of many local, in season ingredients and combined them masterfully. The server was warm, knowledgeable, and professional. This is not an intimidating fine dining experience you will feel comfortable and relaxed and the chef may even come by to greet you. The fixed menu had more food than we could eat so we took some home. I recommend budgeting for a special dining experience here it is good value for the effort put in by the Chef and staff and the wonderful ingredients. A Deer Almond experience will not fade in your memory like other ordinary evenings at a chain restaurant.
4 course options from the preset choices were all beautifully arranged and full of flavor.Smaller dishes in each but enough food by the last bite to satisfy the vast majority. The couple sample dishes could have easily been on the menu as options.Service was top-notch, providing a detailed outline of the ingredients of each dish and how it was prepared.Maybe a touch pricey, but the food was worth it and not the drinks. The only con I have is the atmosphere. Felt like eating in an old cafe and the amazing food was out of place. It's definitely worth a try.
