This restaurant just recently reopened after the COVID 19 pandemic so there were a few issues. Staff and owner were very friendly and accommodating. Some of the food was good and some less than. Calamari great, veggies good, chicken well cooked but sauces needed some refinements for example, marsala sauce goopy and piccata a bit too greasy.
The food was amazing , chicken parm was probably best I have had , prices are reasonable wait staff we had could have been more curtious , waitress cleaned door while we were sitting there then left door open ,Honestly I was there for a nice meal which we had my compliments to the chef , didn’t want to watch house keeping being done nor my food getting cold before getting it to my mouth. I did ask them to please take the prop away from the door so it could close
I was there last November 2017. Food was good, but service was very slow due to insufficient staff for full restaurant. Thought I would attempt it again on a slow night and it was our anniversary. There was only one server (she was great) and one cook. That's it! for at least 8 tables of anywhere from two to 8 people. Food was warm, not hot. Good and I liked that the cook came out to ask EACH table how the food was. Nice touch. Owner needs to hire more staff. We had made reservations in advance so they knew we were coming. I probably WON'T go there again, unless I hear the service has improved
Great meal, awesome knowledgeable and helpful server (Virginia), was the only one on the floor and wow was she a busy lady looking after everyone with a smile and good humour. Hope the boss appreciates her! Food was very good and reasonable. For sure to go back if in town again
Our first evening in Windsor brought us upon this unassuming, quiet little place in downtown Windsor with a simple menu and unique atmosphere (where else do you find an autographed photo of Statler and Waldorf on the wall? . We walked in to find we (a party of 2 were the 2nd arrivals on a Wednesday evening at 7:45, after a surprise table of 12. The poor waitress/bartender/part owner was on her own, and rushing between our table and the massive, unexpected party; however, she was as accommodating, friendly, and attentive as she could be, working under those conditions. She came to our table within minutes, telling us the specials and taking our drinks orders. We told her we were very low-maintenance, but that didn’t stop her coming back to our table within a very reasonable amount of time to get our starter orders, despite the fact she had 12 other diners to whom she had to attend. We ordered a bottle of a Californian Cabernet Blanc, perfectly serviceable, as was our calamari starter—grilled and seasoned nicely. Bread, butter, and an oil/vinegar mix, along with small antipasti (olives and pepperoncini arrived with our wine. I ordered the homemade vegetable rice soup. It was a bit salty for my taste, but full of vegetables, hearty, and hot. Our mains (a pesto fettucine with artichoke hearts/sundried tomatoes for me, and a penne with pesto for my dining partner , were delivered hot and in a reasonably timely manner (please note: “reasonably” means, after having adequate time to enjoy the wine and starters—not immediately after they were served . Your entree choices are either a la carte style, where you choose: 1 pasta, 2 sauce, 3 additional items, or you may order from the standard meat entrees. Sauces are varied, from light (pesto, olive oil garlic, tomato basil, etc. to heavy (walnut cream, Alfredo, etc , and the same goes for the pasta choices (penne, spaghetti, or stuffed . The additional items are either vegetarian (roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. or the usual meat items. The wine list is bare bones: listed as, “Pinot Grigio, Valpolicella, Cabernet Sauvignon, etc.”, so not for the fussy oenophile. (This is not the place for wine snobs, although our server was well versed on the featured wines, with plenty of information on flavour, grape varietals and regions . Vegetarians will have plenty from which to choose from both the starters and mains. I would return to this restaurant because of its character. There were interesting pictures on the wall of downtown Windsor throughout the decades, mood lighting, Frank Sinatra’s Greatest Hits on the playlist (clichéd, true, but kind of endearing in a place like this , red fairy lights on the walls, and, above all, an attentive, friendly server. This establishment is not for those seeking East Side Mario’s kind of “Italian” food, or chain-restaurant, impersonal, brash service; but if you like character, unique ambience, a relaxed meal, and humble food, then please give this place a try. The food may be basic, but the experience is not.
