The food is slightly better than your typical Mexican fare. Servers were very friendly and welcoming, but didn’t visit the table very often. But the big problem was that dinners didn’t arrive for 45 minutes. Margaritas are OK, but have a bit of a fake chemical taste.
Simply love everything about this place. Don’t be fooled by the exterior, it’s certainly nothing to look at wedged between a Midas muffler shop and a buffet, and the interior, while clean and cute, doesn’t strike me as high end. However, the food is delicious! I have never had a bad meal here. My favorite is the taco, enchilada and chili rellenos combo. Even the refried beans on the side are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. My husband swears by the steak fajitas. We always order and extra container of salsa to go so we can enjoy it at home. Check it out and enjoy some authentic Mexican.
It is a warm friendly local place. We've been in only a few times and yet the owner never fails to come over to put a hand on the shoulder to check how the food is doing and how we are doing. It is truly a little bit of community. I recognize this from my trip to Guatemala to learn Spanish. Even there being a very recognizable foreigner, it was not uncommon to go to some restaurant have someone put a hand on the shoulder and welcome you. I found that same community at Cinco de Mayo. It's impressive. The food is very good. Perhaps they could use a bit more spice but then tastes vary. There's a huge variety here and it's all served with warmth and charm and heart. Laughter fills this little restaurant, from the staff and from the patrons. The walls and the decor just make you feel welcomed. The food warm hearty plenty all speak to the goodness of this restaurant. It's not high cuisine it's just good and hearty. Cinco de Mayo is a welcome addition and has been an asset to Willimantic cuisine. Oh, the flan. Shared with my spouse while listening to music from a street band playing Feliz Navidad was just a small bit of heaven. Don't miss this place.
The people who work her are great and the food is delicious. I was so impressed with the great food. Their salsa is perfect. When I'm in the area next, I will definitely stop in for a meal. A great find in Willimantic!!
