And there are some positives, the building is lovely as is the shop, the staff are friendly and the location is nice. However, the quality of the food vs the cost is way off, I paid around £12.00 for a vegan breakfast plus an additional £2.00 per fried egg, that’s right per egg! My daughter had the kids breakfast and we paid £2.00 again for an additional sausage, the girl refused to substitute the beans for anything, including the small items (totally understandable that that beans and a sausage do not equal the same cost). Now whilst the above is reasonably high in cost I’m happy to pay it, if the food is good, but this place it really was not, it was very average. If you compare it to the Yard which is 10 minutes up the road, which also charges these amounts there not even close in terms of quality and appeal, the Yard you leave satisfied you got your monies worth in terms of the quality of the food. Also worth noting for any coffee lovers, the coffee here is not great either, again the Yard is better for there beans.
Dissapointing first and last visit to this Cafe, initial impressions were good as the place looked bright clean and airy. The menu looked interesting and prices were about par for what was on offer. That is as far as the good review goes. Having ordered 2 Flat white coffees, sat back and waited in anticipation of an enjoyable meal. The coffee duly arrived but in cups that were so small that you could hardly put a teaspoon in. I have had bigger Expresso drinks. Avurther ten min utes passed before we were able to order any food. The food took another 40 minutes to arrive, and the portions so small that I honestly thought we had mistakenly recieved someone else starters. But no that wasn't the case, so suddenly the price seemed extortionate. This is not Michelin stared quisine we are talking about but standard lunchtime fare. Having finished our main meal we had decided to have some cake; but alas after 45 minutes of trying to get the attention of a waiter, we gave up and decided to leave.
Be by prepared for a long wait, not busy seemed to be a lot of staff about who seemed oblivious to their customers.Got seated and told waiter would be over shortly to take our order- after a long wait decided to flag a girl down who took our order for coffee cake. Over 35mins to provide coffee cake, the coffee didn’t come until we had nearly finished the cake. Could be so much better- tables needed cleaning but staff busy doing nothing. Noticed other customers waiting to place their orders too being ignored.
Bikes not allowed within sight of the cafe you have to leave them out of sight on a gravel path, despite cafe being less than half full. Stroppy cafe staff told us to move bikes immediately in 'headteacher ' mode.
The lunch was satisfactory, however the Cloudy Lemonade I ordered tasted more like apple juice with a high percentage of apple and low percentage of lemon. I believe the authorities should be made aware of this misrepresentation. I recommend reconsidering labeling it as Cloudy Lemonade. I have tried Cloudy Lemonades at other establishments and am familiar with how it should appear and taste. The drink was orange in color and clear, not at all as it was advertised.
