Le Cavalier - Wilmington

First, let me say that the food was OK, the service was OK, the wine was so so, but for the prices paid, what bothered both my wife and i was the 2 person tables... literally 12-14 apart. An anorexic could not pass between the tables without bumping the neighbors table, glasses, etc. The cramped quarters made what would otherwise have been a decent dinner (NOT outstanding, NOT amazing, but decent) an exercise in annoyance. After trying Le Cav for the third time, we will never waste a key evening again.

The food is delicious and the service is exceptional. Highly recommend date night for just lunch here.

Very mediocre. I gave 3 stars, because of it being the old Green Room and I had memories. So this shows that I am not young, but not old enough to not give an honest review. If you asked me what I did not like about it, I could not answer. It was just a combination of little things that added up. We have another couple that we travel with and eat out at least once a week. We are very agreeable and very kind. We would never complain. We have never sent our food back. It was a quiet night, we had 6pm reservation and I think there were only 3 tables seated and a few people at the bar. Our server was beyond nice. So sweet and personable and accommodating. We ordered drinks, and I think they took at LEAST 20minutes to arrive. I had a Tito's martini, which was one of the worst martinis Have ever had. How do you mess that up? Drinks were a maximum of 4 sips. As stated, the warm olives were a huge hit, and would've been much better with a bread basket with fresh bread. The butter was frozen solid and could not be spread. My husband loved his hummus appetizer. We all had burgers, which were quite good, but not better than any other restaurant in Wilmington. Very generous portions. Our friend had the steak frites, and left his steak mostly untouched. My friend is gluten-free. They came with gluten-free crackers for her, without her asking. The chef came out to discuss the menu with her. I thought that these extra touches of service were wonderful. But when it came to her dinner being served, they left off everything she could not eat. When she asked about it, they were more than accommodating. I was going tohave a glass of wine, but our sweet server never appeared. Our separate checks at the end were so mixed up that I will never figure them out. Our friend was charged for our drinks and we were charged almost nothing. He did not want to point this out and we will deal with him later! All in all, we had good and bad. BUT, it was so slow, that we will not be returning.

We had the most lovely brunch today. Coffee was perfect! The cheese omelette was like a cloud. French toast even came with a candle for a special birthday. Our guests enjoyed the avocado and egg tartine and the breakfast sandwich. The server, Bartek, was professional and personable. He went out of his way to make our meal delightful. We can't wait to return!
