Halibut King - Whitby

May 8 2018 Visited Halibut King Fish and chip Restaurant on 1123 Dundas E. Whitby ON. with a Senior buddy. The food and service was excellent! My friend had 2 large TASTY pieces of Halibut and lots of fries with a diet Pepsi all for $17. I had a large piece of Tasty Haddock plus the house salad and a Lemon water drink all for $13. BEST WISHES!

We have been several times for breakfast at Halibut King. We usually have the special that you get before 11am which is so good and excellent value for your money. Top that with fantastic service and that is why we will go out of our way to come to this place. We have yet to try their fish and chips, but will try them soon. We have heard that they are the best around. Clean restaurant, good value, lots of menu choices, well prepared food, and excellent staff all make for a 5-star rating. We have brought several people to this place occasionally for breakfast and nobody has left hungry or disappointed. A great choice!

After enjoying three great meals at a fish and chip restaurant, we excitedly recommended it to our friends, only to be disappointed by our most recent visit. The portions went from two pieces of fish cut nice and thick to a single thin piece mostly covered in batter and greasy. Even the chips were overly greasy. Both my husband and I felt uncomfortably full after the meal. We were embarrassed when our friends, who went before us, described their meal as "pretty thin." The inconsistency in quality at this fish and chip store is disappointing. It's possible that COVID cutbacks have affected their standards, but we will be reluctant to return, possibly for good.

I have not found a fish and chips restaurant in the Durham Region that compares to this one. The portions are generous, the batter is light and crispy without being greasy, and the fries are delicious. After trying nearly every fish and chips spot in Durham, I can confidently say that this is the best one I have been to.
