Barcelona Tapas&Wine Bar - Whistler

Yesterday we went to Bowen Island for a dinner at Barcelona. Once again it was perfect. The food was amazing, we had sangria as always because for us it's the best. The service was good and professional. We are looking forward to go back to Barcelana for another dinner. Muchas Gracias

If you saw the movie The Menu and thought you might like an experience somewhat like that, then welcome aboard. The tapas were indeed really good but the manager is a character (which is a polite phrase for it). Bowen doesn’t have a lot of fine restaurants but I think they might have let this fact go their head. They make it abundantly clear that they only want you here for a limited time, and hustled us out even though the next sitting hadn’t fully arrived and there were still several open tables. I think that when you spend over a couple of hundred dollars, you deserve not to be hustled and to be spoken to nicely. It verges on rude and both Barcelona and the Tuscany next door need a lesson on manners. If you’re willing to put up with this, enjoy. Were it not for this, I’d have given them better just based on some of the dishes. Even though outdoors, it might be nice at this pricepoint to have some charming tablecloths (instead of industrial) as well.

We were lucky to grab the last two seats at the bar for dinner. Tip: make reservations Even on a rainy Thursday night in November. Had 4 fantastic dishes between 2. Everything was very flavourful and highly enjoyable! A glass of sangria hit the spot to wash it all down

The only reason I stretched to two stars was due to the vibe. Otherwise, the place is overpriced, service is slow and the sangria that everyone raves about was watered down heavily with ice. We were excited to eat here and made a booking prior to arriving on the island. However, we arrived 9 mins early and were met with sullen faces and short tempers. We noticed that 3 other diners were seated and we were more than happy waiting and looking at the menu. But upon greeting us, one lady informed us they were closed and then proceeded to get her manager to come and tell us the same and suggest we go away! We didn 't and so received death stares until our booking time. Once sat, it was average nothing to write home about. The service was slow and we were often forgotten. Shame, perhaps a little more effort is needed in welcoming guests, furnishings (plastic patio seats are a bit tacky for a pricey restaurant), and the two people that 'met ' us might be better not being in front of house as the other servers were at least happier. We won 't be back.

Wonderful service and food from start to finish. Highly recommend. Would definitely go again. We tried several restaurants on Bowen Island Barcelona was by far the best! Thank you Guillaume!
