Minato Sushi - Whangamata

This is by far the best and freshest sushi I've ever had. Each large, succulent piece is made to order, not prepackaged. Be sure to add plenty of ginger and soy sauce. You can choose to enjoy your meal as takeout or dine in the lovely, peaceful courtyard out back. It's best to arrive early, but if your favorite sushi is sold out, they will still make it for you upon request.

I had the most amazing sushi I've tasted in a long time! The chowder is top-notch, and the service is excellent. There's a lovely garden at the back, and the hosts—a Scotsman and his Japanese partner—prepare most of the sushi themselves. It's definitely a place not to be missed!

We received a wonderful welcome, even though we arrived a bit late. The sushi was fresh and absolutely delicious. Yum!
