Hard to decide between 4 and 5 stars for a vegetarian stall. I've also been eating from here since young. They offer great authentic Singaporean-ized vegetarian stuff, though a little less tasty compared to the other vegetarian stall within the same hawker ctr. Service is quite fast too.
It’s one of two vegetarian stores in the hawker centre. Normally avoid 1st and 15th and any important dates in the Lunar calendar due to long queues. Food is alright although the bee-Hoon is probably the best. The sambal is also great. Those that need to be cooked like lor mee, kway chap is also worth trying. Don’t like the nasi lemak though. The servings from the helpers can vary depending who is dishing out. Sometimes they also don’t communicate very well or forget your instructions eg you tell them don’t want chilli, they forgot. Anyway for me it’s alright as they are old folks.
I have mixed feelings about this vegetarian beehoon stall. There's always a long line on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, and the beehoon has a burnt, charred flavor during those times, with smaller portions too. However, on other days, I absolutely love this delicious beehoon—it's hearty and full of flavor, and sometimes I can't believe it's vegetarian! Just avoid visiting on those two days, and you'll have a great experience.
San Yuan Vegetarian offers a variety of around six different vegetarian dishes. Although they were out of laksa, I opted for my second choice, which was still delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
