If you do not order a beverage, they charge $1 for a glass if water shameless greed. I walked out and refused to eat there despite their reputation for good food.
One roast beef on weck ,no sides or drink, kinda chewy and bun wasnt to fresh . $18.00 way over priced
Great service and friendly. Atmosphere is great however the food was sub par. This is the second time I have ordered a few years apart and still the same. I figured I would give them another try because sometimes the beef cut can be tough, NEVER AGAIN! Beef was really tough, cut thick and had zero flavor even ordered medium rare. Almost $30 for a beef, small glob of mashed potatoes and coleslaw which were the best part of the meal!
Great historic atmosphere, where I think you are mostly paying for the history. We were looking for a quick bite after flying in and thought Schwabl’s looked like a neat local place to grab a sandwich. It is a really neat pice of local history. Staff was friendly and chatted with us about the area once they heard we were from out of state. Prices were a bit shocking, especially since we were just looking for something quick. $16 for a sandwich and $6 (or more) for sides. The beef was cooked great, but had zero seasoning. Maybe that’s just part of the traditional nature of the dish. The horseradish was great, and somewhat carried the sandwich. Bread was good but not quite hearty enough to hold the beef. I probably should have gone for a dish with gravy or au jus to give some more flavor. So, if you are looking for a really neat local spot and a historical dish, this is a great place to stop. If you are looking for a meal that you will remember, probably not it.
