The ad had indicated bubbly upon arrival but when we inquired we were told that we must've been looking at the New Years Eve ad. Nope. Checked the link and it was in fact the Christmas dinner ad. Okay, no bubbly, no big deal. The menu we were sent had two entrees, one was turkey with potatoes, gravy, stuffing and vegetables which included Brussels sprouts and glazed carrots. The other entree was a vegetable Wellington. However, I will spare the details as it was not actually available. Entree's came but were cold and there were no Brussels. Further, the carrots were not glazed. They were undercooked, cold and soaked in butter. My dinner partner sent hers back, and when it returned it was marginally warmer but certainly not hot. Dessert was on the menu as pumpkin cheesecake and gelato. However, what arrived was three one inch squares, one of which was pumpkin cheesecake. The other two were carrot cake that was so old and stale it was inedible. There was also a small puddle of melted ice cream. I asked our waitress about it and when she brought it to the attention of the guy apparently in charge he brushed it off as another error on our part. Also included in their ad was Christmas cookies to take home. Nope, no cookies. When the bill came and I asked for a machine so as to use my card I was told I would have to pay at the front desk of the hotel as they weren't equipped to handle this in the restaurant. So, to summarize, dinner not as advertised, dinner was served cold with undercooked vegetables, dessert wasn't as indicated on the menu, not even close. The worst part is that the restaurant staff treated us as if we were stupid, not once but twice brushing our concerns off as a mistake on our part. We will never go back and the one star I gave this restaurant was one I had to give in order to post a review. We honestly felt bad for our waitress, who was left on her own devices as management brushed aside our concerns. Worst $150 ever spent in a restaurant.
My wife and I were getting married at The Cove Lakeside and we called and asked if we could host our rehearsal dinner 2 months in advance at The Bonfire since it was part of the hotel. They accepted our reservation. Come the night of, they only had 3 serving staff on for the entire restaurant, and our party was of 30+ people. The kitchen staff was also very under staffed, 2 people from what I remember. I know that they worked their butts off. I want to make this clear, the party and myself had nothing but respect for the staff for trying their best and being very professional about it. But it was an average of 35-40 minutes for guests to get their first round of drinks, and 2 and a half hours for food. By the time some of the food got out, it was cold and not appetizing at all. Some of our friends who were eating at the restaurant that we’re not part of the dinner said that they had similar wait times. The manager did admit that they had a “scheduling error” which caused it and made the bill right. It was really frustrating to know that this had been on their books for 2 months and they didn’t book enough staff. If you’re coming with a loved one for dinner, it’s probably a nice place. Plan on hosting a party at The Bonfire, maybe consider elsewhere
I used to frequent this restaurant often, especially for their truffle fries and beer at the bar. I enjoyed their quality menu and the seasonal rotation of tap offerings. I recommended that my out of town friends join us for dinner there. However, it seems that there has been a complete change in management and chef, which turned out to be a negative experience. None of us enjoyed our meals, and even the fries were changed to shoestring fries served with ketchup. We were very disappointed, especially considering that the prices remained the same.
Food was good and the staff was very friendly. Great view. But don't come here if you don't have time to spend. From order to food-to-table was a good 45 minutes. The menu was a little on the pricey side and we only ordered appetizers. If we'd added on mains we would have been there all afternoon.
Enjoyed an amazing meal on Friday. Our knowledgeable server recommended the steak fritz which we both savoured at a perfect medium rare with some tasty red wine. We sat in the lounge and felt at home with a cozy ambience. Our server, Kelly was attentive and pleasant and the kitchen was on point. We left feeling very well taken care of and look forward to coming back. Great dining experience!
