There’s also a large, unused sushi bar at the back. The walls are adorned with some pictures, but the overall appearance lacks a modern wow factor. It could benefit from more artwork to offset the stark white decor. Additionally, I think they’ve had the same tables and chairs for at least 15 years. In Garden City South and West Hempstead, there aren’t many Chinese restaurants where families can enjoy a reasonably priced meal together. They offer an extensive à la carte menu (with rice) or a $12.95 dinner special that includes soup, an appetizer, white or fried rice, and an entree. During my recent visits, I tried both wonton and hot and sour soup, and they were both excellent. The wonton soup was light and flavorful, while the hot and sour soup was delicious and cleared up my sinuses. Their egg rolls were fantastic, and the fried rice was good too, though it could have been served a bit hotter. On my first visit, I ordered General Tso's chicken, which was the best I’ve had in a long time—truly a classic American dish! On my second visit, I tried the chicken with garlic, which was very flavorful, featuring a sweet and spicy sauce along with chopped carrots and broccoli (just a heads up, it’s not a peanut-free kitchen). Service is an area that could use some improvement. On one occasion, while dining with a friend, we were two of only four patrons in the restaurant, and we received great service from the manager and/or owner. However, during my next visit with my mother, the service was a bit awkward. A newer waiter, who seemed to be in his mid-twenties and possibly inexperienced, approached us with a tablet and asked what soup we had ordered, even though we hadn’t placed an order yet. While his service left something to be desired, the manager/owner stepped in and provided excellent service. She rectified the mix-up caused by the trainee, checked on our needs, refilled our water, and was very attentive throughout our meal. The owner/manager also made sure we were having a good experience. Overall, if you’re in the area and looking for a good meal, whether dining in or taking out, this is definitely a spot to consider!
The food was fresh and healthy, without being greasy. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Prices were reasonable. We dined in a beautifully decorated and clean atmosphere that felt comfortable—not overly flashy, yet not too casual. It was perfect. Everything smelled and looked clean. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we had a lovely time. It was so nice and peaceful that we could easily make this a weekly outing.
