Fish and chips, scampi and chips, whitebait and chips, scallops and chips were all tried on the visits. Good cooked to order. Chips well cooked, good portions. Full chips no crinkly scraps. Good selection of condiments , tartare sauce, tomato, vinegar and salt sachets. Large queues develop at peak times. Be aware at night the owner doesn’t stay open if demand from public has waned. If your visiting for the day you can preorder and best queues but your food will only be cooked ahead of the queue when you appear at the door. Tried other vendors before we were tempted by the scallops , quality at Fisherman’s wife , compared to Lyme Fish Bar was way above standard . The Lyme Bar food in town was not cooked to order with cooked fish stacked on the hot plate. Got to know Phillip the proprietor over the week and is extremely knowable in the production of his menu. He takes a pride in the finished product, food is of a very high standard.
The whiting was excellent: hot, well prepared, tasty and plenty of it. Good chips to go with that. The rest of the team had other choices and all were very happy. Good ordering, paying, collection system. The Mrs. clearly has things under control...many thanks!
Quality and size of Haddock way down on a visit a year ago. 30 minutes to wait for two fish. I won’t go there again.
I am giving this restaurant one star because it wouldn't allow me to submit my review without a rating. This place also seems to have operated under a different name, Out of The Blue. I wonder if that is because they have been receiving negative reviews for their food. Recently, my son and I had fish and chips from here and it was a terrible experience. The prices were high and the quality was very poor. Sadly, my son ended up with food poisoning and has been sick with a stomachache and vomiting ever since. He fell ill within 30 minutes of eating the food. Most of the meal ended up in the trash because the oil used for cooking had a bad smell. The chips were terrible and tasted old. The fish was watery, poorly filleted, full of bones, and still had the skin on. The tomato sauce tasted cheap and was self-service from a communal squeezy bottle, as were the salt and vinegar shakers - not ideal during a time when Covid is still a concern. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I do not recommend it to anyone. Our journey home was ruined by this experience. I hope the health department takes notice. Avoid this place at all costs.
The fish and chips at this restaurant are freshly cooked to order and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the whitebait, which I highly recommend trying. While the kids' meals seemed a bit pricey, they were well received and of excellent quality. It's definitely worth walking the extra 50 meters past the restaurants with poor reviews at the front.
