Restaurant 1835 Im Hotel Altora

Good service great food, always hot and tasty. A good vegetarian selection too. A great little model train brings the drinks to your table. Good cocktails

Der Empfang war etwas kühl (wir kamen vor 14:30 Uhr). Danach sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Abendessen warhervorragend und die Getränke wurden uns "per Eisenbahn" zugeleitet.

We arrived at Hotel Altora around 5PM and asked what hours the restaurant was open. We were told that we could not eat at the restaurant because we did not have a reservation. We asked when we could get a reservation and were told, "Not until tomorrow". So we made a reservation for the following day at 6PM. The following morning on the steam train to Brocken, we talked to a West German businessman that spoke fluent English. He said that he and his daughter had walked into the restaurant the previous night without a reservation and had a nice meal. He thought maybe the reservation was for a table by the windows because that is where the small train runs that delivers beverages. So we had high hopes for that evening. We arrived at the restaurant and said we had a reservation and they found our name on a list and ushered us to a table, but they would not seat us at a table by the window, even though there was an empty one available! Shortly thereafter, a German-speaking couple came in and were seated at a table by the window. The restaurant was filled with German-speaking people all seated by the window and us, English-speakers not seated by the window. Only those seated by the window are served by the little beverage train. By this time we were rather disgusted and decided to order only beverages and dessert since we had a late lunch anyway. The waitress was not happy about our order, but the desserts were very good and we enjoyed them very much. The bill came to 17 Euros, so it wasn't like they didn't make any money off of us. I am not in tune with German culture, so maybe this is a cultural thing that Germans are offended if you don't order a full meal. So even though the desserts were good, I rated the restaurant as poor because of the reservation-only misinformation and the seating-by-the-window disappointment and the server's attitude about our dessert-only order.

Habe mit meiner Frau im Hotel übernachtet und bin mit großer Erwartung in das Restaurant gegangen. Wir wurden aber enttäuscht. Die Getränke kamen erst mit der Vorspeise. Das Fleisch in der Soljanka hat wohl schon den ganzen Tag draußen gelegen, so hart war es. Das Fleisch beim Steak ou four war trocken und viel zu fest. Am Nachbartisch wurde 2 mal das Falsche gebracht. Für das nächste Abendessen suchen wir uns was anderes.

Vriendelijke bediening, lekker eten voor een correcte prijs. Walhalla voor treinliefhebbers: uitzicht op depot stoomlocomotieven van HSB, drankjes komen aangereden in een modeltrein en er rijdt een treintje boven je hoofd.
