Leuven Belgian Beer Cafe

This restaurant is a fantastic spot for hanging out, and the beer is excellent. I visited for dinner this time, and the food was wonderful, with very polite staff. Unfortunately, my favorite dish, the spicy mussels, was unavailable, which was disappointing since I always order them. Additionally, the waffle ice cream I usually get comes with fruit, but this time it was topped with whipped cream, which I'm not fond of. Nonetheless, the waffle ice cream still tasted good. I hope they can bring back my favorite dish soon!

Unfortunately, there was a noticeable language barrier with the waitstaff. Our order was incorrect; we ordered 1 mussels, 1 chips, and 2 beers, but received 2 pots of mussels in different flavors. When we brought it to the staff's attention, we found that each mussel pot contained only 15 tiny mussels. The waitstaff could benefit from some training.

This place used to be a fantastic bar in the past and is still pretty decent. I think it would be a fun spot to visit again on a Friday night. When we went for lunch at 1 PM, we were limited to ordering from the breakfast menu, which included options like porridge, granola (which they had run out of), and various toppings for toast such as minced meat, guacamole, mushrooms, bacon with eggs, and sausages. It would have been nice to have more choices. The food was tasty, the wine prices were comparable to other bars, and the service was attentive.

Visited a couple of weeks ago, food here was great, enjoyed my time. The waitresses are very friendly however one of the male servers, I think the manager, seemed to insist on them checking up on us very often to the point of it being difficult to enjoy my family meal.

The beer tonight’s choice was Juliper. Comes in a glass designed for the beer. The chips are always excellent. The beer on offer is good. We don’t in particular enjoy Wheat beer but it’s available. The eggplant dish was disappointing and promised more but fell short. Spend a bit more time preparing your eggplant please. And cut the end of the egg plant off. Grill it or roast prior. It just didn’t cut it. Hate being picky. I wanted to complain but sometimes you just can’t be bothered. It was a fun night and well the staff were chilled and happy. To make the point it’s a score of three. Service is very good overall and personable. Some basic training from management and tips on serving meals may help. However to be fair that was not the usual experience. The atmosphere is well presented and warm. No complaints there. It’s a great authentic atmosphere. We have been to Leuven many times over the last few years. Tonight I just didn’t want a steak or the croquettes which are always well done or the meatballs which are very tasty. Leuven, take note, Vegetarian dishes are a requirement these days. Bit more prep on the eggplant and you’ll crack it. We will be calling to discuss. Kind regards.
