Despite customers, even young ones, complaining about the cold, the heating was not turned on. The inability to light fires due to chimney stack issues made for a chilly dining experience, leaving diners to eat with their coats on and feeling cold to the bone. Disappointingly, there was no offer of a complimentary hot drink or a discount to make up for the uncomfortable conditions. Even after reaching out to the manager via email, no response was received. It's unfortunate as this used to be a favorite pub that was recommended to others, but that is no longer the case.
The Sunday roast was disappointing...my favourite part, the roast potatoes, were not good...actually all the veg wasn't great. Food also wasn't very warm and had to ask for extra gravy as it was dry. The service was average. The waitress didn't know what ales were!? And there was actually only 1 choice of Ale! Shame
The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Thank you! The staff was attentive but not intrusive.
It was a very quiet Wednesday evening and there were a lot of staff but they were more concerned about shutting shop than serving customers. They swept the floor around us and had loud conversations about whose turn it was to do what in the cleaning arena. Meanwhile, we had mediocre food and waited ages for the bill and to pay. I love to see a young team, but these guys need some customer service experience or hands-on management/leadership to steer the ship. Such a shame as I have had many lovely meals and times at the Red Lion. Up to 2012 when I moved away.
The normally excellent Sunday lunch was quite poor recently. The plates were cold so our food was already cold when served. We did mention this politely at the time but the waitress took offence and told us this was normal when serving large numbers! There didn’t seem to be any experienced staff around. The desserts were sadly disappointing too.
