I made a late addition to this weekend cheese steak run in Philly and met this Irish diver on Sunday afternoon. The staff was first, as it was close to warming up when we talked about being a stranger from VA. Anyway, the place is really shady nostalgic. Cool sports and school relics are everywhere. The floors were slippery and it was kind of dirty. But the cheese steak was great. Sliced ribeye, perfectly grilled to crispy edges, onion, pepper, cheese ratio was just right. The prices were also incredible. would have paid the $5.40 for the same big sandwich in VA! Parking is hard, the place is not pretty, but the sandwiches are very good.
These are the small hidden food compounds that make regional American food great! No franchise, no lip, no decorator. Only the most amazing Philly cheese steaks we've ever had! Great portions. (Photo is of 1 cheese steak, halved We have fed 2 adults and 2 children for less than $20. Obviously a long time favorite with locals. 3 tables in the back room, long counter with bar stools in front. They come to eat, not din: . We loved it!
I almost wasn't in Joe's Place. The decor, regular and $8.60 including an iced tea for a cheese steak made this a great place. I'll be back for two eggs, ash-brown and scrap.
I have worked in this area for years and passed by Joe's countless of times. However, I finally decided to make the stop and I am happy that I did. Also, I am upset that I didn't do it sooner. It's definitely a local grill where the patrons and those behind the counter seem like family. I order the pork roll, egg, cheese and it was cooked perfectly. I am happy that I discovered this already found treasure and will be back.
